Thanks for all the information guys. I have decided that the 2007 Kawasaki KLX 250S is the bike that best fits my needs. The dealer near my home has $4,799 on ther price tag. They would not commit on a price, but said they would match any other dealer. I found the bike for sale at a dealer in Ohio for $4,144. That sounds like a fair deal to me. Is that a good price? They then said that the set up and freight would be $599. I nearly pooped my boxers! Is that a legitimate expense, or is it a way for them to make more money?

this is common sense, they're trying to stick it to ya. If you could get that $599 to be the tax, title, license, and fees altogether, then you'd be doing pretty good. that'd be around $4750 otd. in '07, they raised the msrp $100 over '06. I paid $4675 otd in April '06. you'd be paying $75 more than I did, but the bike now costs $100 more. that would be a good deal imo. tell them this and see what they say. if they say no, shake their hand and tell them thanks, but you're taking your money and business to another dealer. good luck. ask to see where these fees are listed on the invoice for the bike.

Just bought mine last month. The dealer originally wanted almost 600 in prep fees. Told them I would buythat dayif they dropped the fees and they did. If you are ready to sign the deal they should drop the fees. If they don't find a dealer that doesn't charge.

Yes they are sticking it to you its a dealership way of making up the cost and you thinking you got a good deal. I bought mine in Jan. 07 its a left over 06 I paid 3940.00 out the door.I was going to buy a used one but couldn't pass it up.The time of year has alot to do with the price. Tell them you will give them 4300.00 and they say no keep shopping! Good luck

I paid $4349 for my 07 with no set up or freight charges. The guy knew I had been shopping around and I told himif he could give me the best price, I would be down the next day for it. And I did. 
And this dealer never charges any set up or freight.

Thank you for the help guys. I think I will offer them $5,000 for bike, tax, license, set up and freight. From what you have to say I can't see them saying no.
How much do the after market exhausts cost that I am reading about on the forum for the KLX 250 S, and which ones do you recommend? Also, what do different posters mean when they talk about a "slip on?". Sorry for the trite questions. I am a newbee.

what state are you in? That's a nice otd price.
I live in FL & am shopping for an out the door best deal unless I can work out a nice used one.
I just picked up a used (1080 miles)bone stock 06 creme puff for my wife. Now am hunting for myself. I have noticed that there are some nice ones on the forum as well.
