Default KDX air filter: Lose the sponge

Just installed a Twin Air Filter that I had intended to put in the KDX. The oem part numbers are the same for the KLX250 and the H model KDX200-220's ('95-'06). Take a look at this beauty This might be a good mod for all of you that have re-jetted, added an aftermarket exhaust, modified the air box lid, or all of the above. I'm sure I'm running super lean now as the bike is stock but I'll have to see how she rides.

I run the KX 500 model Twin Air. Fits well. Works great. Picked up a couple on closeout for $9 a piece. They only had 2 left.

Did you oil it? Doesn't look oiled..

I grabbed a Uni. I can't see any difference between one foam filter and another from a performance stand-point.

I just installed a UNI and the KDX snorkel last weekend. Used PJ1 filter oil. I like it- I feel a bit more pull and the throttle response seems better. (My exhaust smelled rich before.)

Yeah I oiled it pretty good. I have a Uni installed by the previous owner in my KDX and was gonna change it out for the Twin Air. But my KDX needs a top end as it's been running the original top end since 2001. So I decided to put the Twin Air in the KLX. After cross-referencing the oem part number I discovered that they are identicle.

I put a Twin Air in my sons CRF150 and it's 'purred' ever since, so I went with the twin for the Kawi. After dealing with these aftermarket filters I can tell you that the oem sponge is utter crap. I can't see how the oem filters breathe at all.

I was tempted by an AUS Uni filter (it differs from the USA Uni filter) but the deal on the two Twin Air's was too sweet. We have the finest dust in the world down here, apparently. The AUS Uni is a true 2 stage filter but both the iner and outer stages are the same gauge. I've read that the AUS KTM team don't run the OE Twin Air's but opt for the AUS Uni as it's designed to deal with the ultra fine dust we get down here. I live in the west, so sand is the problem we have, not the dust.

You know the dust if fine when your gauges start to fill with dust, the tacho was the worst. I could taste the dust days after the ride out at murry darling, western NSW.

I hear it can get bad up east of Geraldton. That's a long ride for me from Perth on the little greenie.
