K&N air filter
I have an opinion on K&N in general. If you a want to hear that let me know. Nothing SPECIFIC to the 250S though. People are far to touchy about what other people think about their filters it seems, so I'll only say it if you want to hear it.
Are you sure that you have the K&N part number correct?
I think that the K&N P/N is KA-1287 for the KLX250S/300

I have used K&N filters for a long time. I do not have any "hard" data on how much performance increase they actually add. However, in the applications that I have used them in, they have made the intake side of things less restrictive.

I bought mine at store.58cycle.com, just choose the K&N Filter for the KLX 300

$46.95I use K&N filters on my bike and my truck. IMHO, they let more air in and increase the responsiveness of both vehicles.

Short: I think they flow more than any other filter but allow in more dirt.
Long: I bought a used XR650L in 1998 (it was also a 98 model). I did not know it when I bought it, but it had a K&N. When I started driving it offroad (first owner never left pavement) then later checked the filter I found it was letting in a little dust. It was nothing bad but just not the shiny intake boot I was expecting & I never felt it was enough to do any damage becase I caught it so fast & like I said the previous owner was all street. So I found the usual love/hate opionions on K&N on the internet. I bought a UNI & never had a problem again. I was able to compare the K&N & UNI side by side for the same bike. Holdign them up to light you could plainley see the K&N was far more porus & almost looked like it had needle holes in it compared to the UNI--easy to see how dust gets in. Yes, I know how to oil a filter.
Anyone with a search engine can find tests to back this up & probably even some the opposite. I don't doubt theyflowbecause with all those holes they should. For off-road I stick to foam & street I stay with paper (paper is better yet for filtering, worse for flow, but clogs too easy & can't handle being wet at all for off-road).
I am sure this guy has been using K&N for 50 years & that guy for 60 years without a problem but I don'tbother. Do what you want, better or worse it your bike.

I have herd plenty of testamonials to substantiate what KLXer is saying. I think their are'flow fanatics' that would rather turn a blind eye to how porous the filters really are. I will stick with aUni or NoToil, thank you!
