^^ What is the name of this side cover (left side) ?
Any part number ?
Easy replacement ?
Expensive fix ?

I went down on my 2010 klx250sf just before.
I am a bit embarrassed because this slow 250 put me on my ***.

Damage :
Broken LED brake light and bent plate mount
Also the shifter smashed into the crank case cover I believe it is...what do you guys think thanks.

Part: COVER-GENERATOR
Part number: 14031-0110 (replaces 14031-1400)
Should be pretty easy part to replace
$136 from Part Shark (http://www.partshark.com/fiche_section_detail.asp)

Maybe time to invest in a bash plate?

I notice $111 at Bike Bandit. Most skid plates won't prevent that damage, though I've seen some that have wings that stick out pretty far.

Hey thanks, I just found out it is the generator cover aswell.
Motor oil leaked out of that hole, and I hope thier aren't any broken metal peices inside now. The bike was still running for a few seconds after the lever made that hole. I really wonder how hard or easy this cover replacement will be ?

Easy to replace , you may need a new gasket too. Depends on what the old gasket looks like when you get the damaged cover off. Keep track of what bolts come out of what holes , some of them are different lengths. Torque the bolts when you put the new cover on. A torque wrench is cheaper than a new crankcase . You will have to remove the gear the starter motor turns . Be careful to keep track of the thin bushings that are on either side of the gear on the shaft. The stator cover also carries an idler gear , this gear will not come out of the crankcase , but the one side will come out of the stator cover, again watch for the thin bushings.
Dan
keep track of you bolts like this (this is for the other side of the engine)

I was able to pull my idler gear out because the bushing it rode in was trashed. disregard that red arrow.. that was for another thread.

^^^ Thanks Dan !
Great idea to keep the order of the bolts.
Do I have to worry about any little metal shards that may be in there ?

yes,

Try to account for every bit of the cover that you can. Did you leave any on the road?
It almost looks like your cover is mostly split/peeled open. Hopefully if there are any chunked out pieces, they are larger than smaller, and easy to find. Loose foreign material is not good in the engine. It can get sucked up and damage the oil pump, or get stuck in between any number of gears in there.
One good thing is that the oil passage from the stator area to the main crankcase area is fairly small, it's not just all wide open.
