I was reading a thread about a guy who was into hill climbing trying to turbo a 450. Some other guy posted that he has heard of poeple installing a fan from an inboard boat engine to increase compression and therefore power.

Has anyone heard of this or know anything about it? I was thinking maybe a nice computer fan or something like that could be used?

Seems like a cool idea.

P.S. the guy talking about the inboard fans said this could be done for around $60.

Aerodyne probably makes a turbo small enough for a 250cc motor. Would be interesting to try to make one work... though I have doubts about the transmission and clutch longevity. Since we have about 18 hp stock, I'm thinking the turbo would be good for 23-25 hp on pump gas. To keep it compact, I don't see how to fit an intercooler so you'd be limited on boost... 5-8 psi at most. Probably a lot easier and cheaper to just do a 351.

how would you plumb in the air box and filter. then the oil lines for the turbo, keep dirt out of it and the bearings.... just not practical at all.. maybe for a street bike.

Thanks for the link wildcard! I was thinking exactly what that website said a little electric fan would have enough power to compress the air. Oh well...

I read that stuff about electric turbos and got side tracked to the links on the JBO forum where a company the sells car one got torn up. It was pretty entertaining and I recommend if your bored you read it lol.

 

Also, unrelated to turbos, I was thinking about 2 strokes and the fact that their powerband is when the back pressure at a certain rpm range is just right allowing the engine to perform at max efficiency.

Would it be possible to make an adjustable exhaust that matches airflow out to the throttle allowing a constant powerband?
