Tremor38: That is some of the stuff I read too but didn't want to put a damper on his new mod but I am glad you followed up so he understands there are potential issues under certain cicumstances.

Hmm...anyway, I think the problems with the Idle Gear are real, but they are based in regular usage of the kickstarter.
I looked for "Stroker" on the web and can't find it.

Scary stuff if the Idle gear breaks.

Exhaust Cam for 2007 KLX250sPN 12044-1365)

KLX250H6F (KLX250S) (2006)
KLX250H7F (KLX250S) (2007)
KLX300-A2 (KLX300R) (1997)
KLX300-A3 (KLX300R) (1998)
KLX300-A4 (KLX300R) (1999)
KLX300-A5 (KLX300R) (2000)
KLX300-A6 (KLX300R) (2001)
KLX300-A7 (KLX300R) (2002)
KLX300-A8 (KLX300R) (2003)
KLX300-A9 (KLX300R) (2004)

I went to the parts ficheand searched on the 2005 KLX300 and looked up the cams for part # 12044-1487

Model (6): [/align]

KLX300-A10 (KLX300R) (2005)

KLX300A6F (KLX300R) (2006)

KLX300-A7 (KLX300R) (2002)

KLX300A7F (KLX300R) (2007)

KLX300-A8 (KLX300R) (2003)

KLX300-A9 (KLX300R) (2004)

It seems there is some overlap in the cams.
I'm not convinced there is a difference between Part #12044-1365 and12044-1487.

Weird for sure.

Geez,Lauren,

And .... all I did was put on a second "start" button (in case the hanging-thingy-start-button ever broke on me out in the boonies!!), ...and I was proud of my work!

Great write up and super photos... Thanks.

(Now, 'fess up', you do really like challenges, don't you?)

Oh, but there is. -1487 has the improved ACR timing that Kawi termed E-Z start. My bet is that they actually started putting the new cams in sometime later in 2004, but those bikes were also sold as 2005 models...it's not uncommon. This isn't something I made up. They actuall did change the timing on the ACR...and they most certainly would change thePN if they did so. That's why Brewster asks what year someone's bike is before they send him their cam.

Lauren......I am humbled by your kick axe writeup. Very nice! With that I am going to print it out and put it on my bench as a reminder asking me what's the delay in getting this done. Thanks for all your hard work. [sm=smiley20.gif]

Five Star write up! It's funny, when I went to pick up my KLX on the day I bought it I was watching the mechanics installing the battery - my god it took them an hour just to get the plastic cover back on the bike (they were pretty clueless). They then asked me if I wanted them to install the kick starter, after watching them in "action" I said - PASS! It would be nice to have but hey, it's always about the money!

"kick axe writeup." No pun intended?

I agree on the write-up.That has to be the best install guide you can find anywhere, hands down!

I believe ya!

And I thank you too.

I just feel a bit deflated thinking that I might have put something in my KLX that may cause harm later.

I think the risk is *very* low, since I'll only use the KickStarter in emergencies.

The KickStarter works and is pretty cool to have, since I will use the KLX as a trail bike primarily.

Thanks!

Anyone in Florida (Orlando) that wants me to help them, or look at mine, drop me an email.

I was inspired by Finger Mullet and credit him throughout my "How_To".

He blazed the "How to Trail".
