Default Interesting Spoke Discovery

While going over my wheel set tonight I noticed that many of the spokes were loose (purchased the wheels used) so I went around to check for frozen spokes, as I had already found one. I have 10 frozen spokes on the rear wheel, all on the sprocket side! The rotor side had none frozen, a few were tight but not frozen. Seems to me that the drive side of the hub really puts some stress in the spokes. This may be common knowledge to some but it just occurred to me while going through the wheel. With this in mind I'd expect to find similar results on the front wheel, except the stressed side being the rotor side.

Also, these wheels came with 1 rimlock each. After looking at it I wonder if the instability over 50mph isn't caused by being unbalanced, but because the rim lock creates a hump under the tube and subsequently a lump in the tire?

Once a spoke nipple is frozen, how can you unfrozen it?

Oh. [&o] bummer. I have some frozen spokes on my TT500. I found out that the spokes will break if you try to get them unfrozen with a wrench. ooops. I bought a 78 YZ250 wheel on ebay, turns out it has cracks in it, (friggin' wheel of death![:@] ) but I guess I can at least I can steal some spokes off of it.

The OEM Kawi spokes are $1.50 at ronayers.com might be worth looking into for the Yami.
