Default installing heat shield to headder without one.

At first I thought GF's bike was hotter on the leg becuase it was too lean. (Stock jetting with headder and exh) It would get the header red hot.
Then after rejetting its still hot on the leg & I noticed the header has not heat shield.

Anyone know if there is some kind of aftermarket heat shield that would go on with stainless hose clamps maybe?? Or should I tach on a couple nuts so I can fit a stock heat shield? Or..............is the carbon fiber wrap worthwhile? - Is it a PIA to install?

Thanks in advance for all replies

Cheers, Jim

I love the one I Bought, not only does it work, but it adds that much needed "bling" to the bike in the chrome department.

I bought it in the road bike section in my local motorcycle store.

It uses regular hose clamps with a standout spacer that keeps the shield away from the pipe.

Go with deej's idea as I have thought about using hose clamps and making one just haven't burned my leg for motivation yet but I probably will. Header wrap is easy to use but not real good on an off road bike as it would get grungy fast and stinks when wet and hot.

Thanks for that nugget of knowlage. Her bike is definatly on road only. But we get up to 100" of rain so stinks when wet is right out.

Will start googling for something like Deej's but a bit more subdued.

FMF makes one for about $30 online. That's what I use.

You could take deej's chrome item there and rough it up on a wire wheel. Then paint it with flat black header paint. I'm guessing that part is steel. If it's aluminum, just rough it up and leave it raw.

I used the ceramic fiber stuff thats about 2" wide, it took about 15 feet of it. There can be a lot of dry grass where I live and I was concerned about starting a fire if I rode through it or dropped the bike right side down. It is pretty gross when it's wet, if you stop you can see steam coming off of it, near the cylinder side, and it smells.

I cant check right now but here's a pic on the pipe.. It's definitely adequate. I had it powdercoated along with a few other pieces..
