Default Installed my FMF muffler tonight

I'm going to take it to Racers Edge and have them re jet it and put it on the Dyno. I purchased the jet kit from Dynojet here in Vegas. I totally forgot that he wanted to do a run with the stock exhaust. So I guess I won't get a comparison, but I can find out what HP it's supposed to make with the stock exhaust easy enough. I'm still mad at myself for forgetting though.

The install was easy enough. I did have to enlarge the front bracket hole so the front bolt would match up. Bending the passenger guard out of the way took 2 seconds with the handle of a hammer. The directions were well written and mentioned bending the guard out of the way.

It fired right up with the rolling the throttle open for a few seconds trick. I didn't run it long, as it was late and I didn't want to annoy the neighbors. It will be interesting to see what it comes off the dyno at.

Bring your stock muffler with you to the dyno. I am curious too.

Everything I've read says the 09SF makes 18hp stock. At $75.00 per hour, I think I subconsiously didn't want him taking any more time then he has too.

I don't think the stock muffler will work any more. I had to remove the gasket inside the header so the FMF would fit.

When done mention your mods, like air box config and brand of filter along with power and torque figures please as I'm intrestred in what you get. There was one guy here who did have a baseline of 16-18 hp and a claimed 22hp at stage 2. That's a pretty good jump and it would be nice to know if your experience is anything like it. Thanks.

All I'm doing is the slip on muffler. If I could find a K&N air filter, I would do that too. But K&N doesn't make an air filter for the SF yet. I don't think I'm going to mess with anything else... For now.

Aren't the KandN's the same for the SF and S ? Its the KA-1287.

I believe the air filter is the same for all 06-07's and 09-10's.

Anyways, I have always heard that a stage 2 jet kit, header and muff, and opened up airbox will yield 22-24 hp. Throw in a big bore and it goes to 26-27 hp.

From where it started I'd be happy with a 23hp dyno sheet from my bike I think. That's why I'd like to know his numbers. Not bad until you think that a mid 80's Honda XL250R put out 24-25hp stock and weighed a little less than the current KLX.

Its all about emissions now.

Smaller intakes, smaller exhaust valves, lean jetting, cats, air injections system, cleaner timing and lower duration cams, etc.

Our bikes our probably 10X cleaner than the old bikes but who cares, if it is for road use it has to meet the EPA requirements.

A new off road KX250R not puts out 39 horsepower with the same 250 cc's.

The bike is finished and I'll pick it up in the morning. The owner gave me the rundown.

I had already installed the FMF, so they didn't get to make a run with the stock muffler. I'm going to figure 18HP stock. I've read that in a couple different places.

They made a run with the FMF as I installed it: 22HP.

They did a stage two mod, which they did on their own. I had only figured to do a stage 1 mod. The stage 2 mod included the re-jet, removed the airbox lid and modified the snorkle. After that, the end result is: 23.5HP.

I'll get all the documentation tomorrow. I'm going to dig more for a suitable K&N filter. Thanks Big Sky. I'll try and get a ride in after work tomorrow.
