I'm such a slut...
...Just picked up a dualsported 2004 KLX 300R this afternoon. Came with a nice new skidplate (not a mark on it), FMF Powercore 4, and nearly new Trakmaster IIs. Runs like a champ and looks good as well. Needs a new headlamp and a horn. I have the horn in the barn. I'll probably change the stock gearing out to 13/42 which is a good combo for my 50/50 riding. I noticed the stock airfilter in place, so I suspect a few other cheap mods may give it a bit more pop as well.
I love my 2007 KLX250S, but liked the idea of 28 pounds lighter and 5 more ponies even better. I don't mind kicking. It started in 3 kicks cold (nice day at 40F) and about half a kick when warm. I tried riding it around offroad but the ground's frozen and I was getting squirrelly at every roll of the throttle.
Cost me $1200 and 4 used tires. I'll get over the loss of the tires.
BTW, the Powercore 4 is a bit louder (but it is a nice deep note) than I like. Anyone want to trade for a decent Q4 or a pumper carb and some cash?

Here's the pic from UncleHenrys. MaximusPrime knows what I'm talking about.
Maximus - just waiting on the left side gasket for the 250. It would have been back together a long time ago if I was competent enough to order all the parts at the same time, doh.

Get the quiet insert for your powercore. It will tone it down
I took the bulb out and it looks OK. Unfortunately, I think it may take more wattage than the puny 300R stator can provide. It a 12V 45/45 bulb. How does this sound to the more electrically inclined members?
12V 45W = just under 4 amps. No idea what a 300 stator puts out.
Check the bulb using jumpers from your 250's battery. No need to worry about polarity when checking a bulb as basic as this one.
The problem with the headlamp may be somewhere else. Do you have a voltmeter (can be very basic) to do some circuit checks? ie voltage here but oops not here

After checking the bulb, while it's out, check the connector to see if voltage is present. I'd hook the black lead of the voltmeter to the negative terminal of the battery and probe the headlamp connector with the red. If nothing shows go backwards through the circuit, switch out/in etc.
It could also be a faulty ground. If the connector showed voltage, move the black probe to the ground at the connector and recheck the terminals where you already proved voltage. If that shows a fail, you've got a ground circuit problem. In this case follow the ground circuit wiring backwards with the black probe leaving the red in the connector where you proved voltage.
