Default Was I running rich?

So I finally got around to buying a pipe and jet kit. I took the bike apart today and jumped into the carb for the first time. Looks like i was running a #132 main jet this whole time. When I bought it last year the PO said he installed a K&N air filter with air box lid removed but never mentioned jetting it. The bike always seemed to run strong...
I think I'm gonna go with the #128 main since thats what dynojet suggests and I've seen that size around here quite a bit

Any comments? suggestions?

Sounds like the previous owner didn't know what he was doing.

Or maybe he did, as the bike always seemed to run good. The 132 was probably not a DJ132. My 250 would run with the DJ132 just smelled really rich out the back end. DJ128 works great with aftermarket pipe. Even without a pipe no airbox lid and a K&N will require more fuel.

You said the bike ran well, well the jetting must have been close as the first sign of a jetting issue is a bike that doeen't run well.

Bike can run well and still be really rich.... I thought my bike ran good before i rejetted it for CO. Then i didnt touch the jetting when i came back and took it for a ride and it ran better. I think i had it a bit too rich and when i tweaked it, i got it spot on.

I read as much info as I could find, before re-jetting mine. One trick I ran across was to drop the diaphragm in a cup of HOT water as soon as you remove it, to keep it from expanding. Worked for me.

I'd be worried if I found sealant in there... might be a good idea to clean the surfaces and just install a new diaphragm. You don't know if the PO drilled it or not... My '09 DynoJet kit came with a new spring, and did NOT tell me to drill the hole in the diaphragm.

Anytime I have a bike that runs well at all rpms and I want badly to have a problem to fix jetting would be thet last thing to come to mind for me. My KLX is a little fat on either the needle or the main but runs and pulls as good as I could ever expect it to so I'm not real concerned over it and have lost no sleep over the issue.
