I really think we should start seeing other people
It's not you. It's me. I'm seeing someone else now. Can we still be friends?
Here's the new ****.

I spent some time hanging with some friends with old motocross and football injuries lately and it led me to make a command decision to keep my off-roading at a KLR level so I don't end up back here again.

Because that sucked and that ankle is really messed up now as is the other one. And they're both getting worse with age. I'm a disaster magnet. It probably would be not such a good idea for me to fly ultralights either.
You know, you can say "Just ride it nice bla bla bla!" But the fact is when you have the equipment your other friends with the equipment say "come on and come out with us to Broken Ankle ridge!" then you say "Nah." and they say "come on...come on...come on...come on..." until you give in and you find yourself someplace you shouldn't be doing something you know is stupid because you know on Monday you have to be standing on pavement for 10 hours to make your living.
I love the KLX. It's a cool machine. I'll still hang around and contribute what I learned here and there. Now I come up to a corner and my first impulse is to plot a course through the ditch, across a driveway, across the yard or hay fields, across another ditch, big roost, then get back on the pavement. With this new thing I have to tell myself "It's pavement only...It's pavement only...It's pavement only..."

I'm already thinking of a front wheel swap with something 21". The rear size we can get off roadish tires for BMW stuff. The speedo is electronic from the tranny, not the front end. If, say, I were to do a fork swap with a KLX650 or something like that, hmmmm..... it's brand new. I can't be hacking on it yet. Give me until February and it's parked in the living room for the winter. I'll have it turned into a space shuttle or a basket full of scrap metal by May.
Nice bike. Isn't it funny how you already want to start tinkering with it?I'm guessing I wont see you at the big woods 200 on that this fall

Dan
Sure you will. I'll be on the black **** next to the green ****. I wont be doing any hero sections. And I will be going for fish at the bar on Friday night and Saturday night doing the pub crawl from one side of town back to the fair grounds.
Here is my new and improved KLR they should have made.

Great choice for a new ride. I picked up a low mileage red 2007 about a year ago. Hadn't been on a serious pavement bike in about 30 years. It's the perfect fit for me. I didn't want a crotch rocket and didn't want a big displacement street cruiser. Good acceleration and great handling plus a comfortable riding position.
Here are links to a couple of videos I made from a recent ride with some buddies near Roanoke, VA.....Versys versus CBR's.
