I need some help from riders I've helped...

Geez JCT! Sound like me in the vehicle dept. But I went with the OHV V-6 in my Ranger, along with a 5 sp manual. Seems most all cars have tranny problems as a main issue in their Consumer Reports ratings. I'm sure some are just the weird way they shift, but there's a whole lot less to go south on a manual as long as I don't ride the clutch. I don't.
It was also hard to find one that wasn't rusted. I ended up paying what would be considered too much for a 96 5sp OHV 4.0 V-6 with around 82,000 miles on it. It was a Splash step side so the rear fenders are plastic - like that - and the rest of it looked virtually perfect. Going good at this point.
What engine was in yours?

To repair or over haul you need special tools most shops don't have. I felt this would have been just the start of more problems. I will never ever by a used car with out a big guarantee. Ended up with a brand new nissan car.

There was a 4.0 OHC running the longer chain needed to drive the cams, like the Japanese bikes. I have the push rod 4.0 OHV - just like the Detroit V-8s. I stayed away from either the 3.0 or 4.0 after hitting the Ranger forums before buying. Seems the two overhead cam engines didn't have the reliability of the overhead valve engine.
Obvious thing to do... small block V-8!

I know.... who'd have thunk it?
A friend did it up back in 2009. I edited a bit, but it really needs livened up and organized.

I just received my Cam Chain Tensioner. Thank you Mark. I may wait to install as I have a coil coming in the next few days and can do it all at the same time. The KLX started cutting out again, thought I had it cured but its back. That is as nice of machine work as it can get on the tensioner. John

both parts came today so I stuffed them in. runs great and old tensioner was polished on back and teeth looked used! There was 8004 miles on bike and it did not get washed for the picture!
