Default I ain't some dumb, I'm plumb dumb...

So two weeks ago I had my fun filled mod day on my 09. DJ kit, full Muzzy and smogectomy-(which I dedicated to Al Gore).

Well friday was the first time I had decent weather to take it out for a spin. Everything was perfect (so I thought). Immediate improvement in throttle response, I could feel the improved power etc. So I get about a mile from my house and she boggs down and croaks. To make a long story short I pushed her home as my nieghbors smiled and thought "that dummy ran out of gas"

I let it sit a while then she ran like a champ again. So we hit the road to stall again but in front of my house (better planning this time). Nothing appeared wrong or out of place so I assumed the the jetting was wrong or something so I prepared myself to rip out the carb to inspect it. I knew it was too easy to be truly successful the first time. So before I got too involved with the disassembaly, I took a closer look at things. DOH! The clear/pink vacuum tube coming from the top right side of my carb had been resting on my later installed exhaust pipe and melted completely shut. Happy that I could explain the problem and it was an easy fix, I still had to smack my forehead and say, "Stupid, stupid, stupid" Well that one got past me apparently. My 6 year old boy was helping me that day (teachable moment), but I can't blame him for my goof.

Now I'm waiting for decent weather to take it out and test it.

Question: What is the function of that clear/pink hose coming from the top right side of my carb?

I'm sure you were relieved that it was a simple fix. I had mine start acting up, popping on decel and stalling at stoplights, and I was dreading troubleshooting it. First step I took was cleaning the air filter. While I had it apart to clean the air filter I noticed that one of the caps I had put on the carb, after I got rid of the smog hoses, had come off. Re-capped it and zip tied the cap, instant cure for the problems. Relief that it was a simple fix.

Default not dumb:now advanced educated

First of don't dedicate anything to that fat slob Al Gore. He's making millions by professing false claims to the general public. Fat SOB claims to be carbon neutral cause he donates a small amount of his wealth to companies and false enviro groups, which he is in no doubt a major stakeholder,He's making a small envirofootprint claims he, if he were nearby me the footprint I would make on his fat *** would be heard around the world. Enough venting glad you found your problem, so easy to miscalculate a distance of 1mm or so, call it DIY R+d, that's how all the big companies found out their mistakes .Used to get a laugh at the Japanese companies back in the day when they said "tested in the Canadian North to 40 below", damn things wouldn't start at 30 above.

I'm right there with you on the Al Gore comments Oldphart. That's why I had a big smile on my face as I increased my carbon footprint...What a joke.

You actually decreased your footprint by getting better combustion and emission numbers. Just don't try explaining that to an intellectual college educated bureaucrat.
Intellectual; a person who has been forced educated beyond his God given IQ abilities.

What I don't understand.... the smog stuff recirculates hot air to better burn any remaining fuel in the exhuast... which creates higher EGTs. Unless I'm mistaken, high EGT = pollution. So dumb. Let's get rid of one pollution by creating a different one!

The smog stuff is going byebye next time I have the tank off, probably to check my valves here before much longer.

If it's fun, it must be bad for the earth, and that makes you more evil in some people's eyes. Here is an educational environmental message from last year, it's probably not safe to view at work. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x57...-nealon-ja_fun

Default emissions

To cliffsta: your on the rite track reducing combustion temp reduces nox emissions, which is ok, but I could go on for another forums worth of debate and theory and speculator about emissions, the old house paint used in the 50's is still putting out more heavy metals than every KLX rider on this forum, not to mention lawnmowers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, etc, etc. We are such a small number it is ignorable, but it sure looks good when you have a bad *** biker on a KLX250 lighting up the news screen.
