How long stock tires...
I'm using an '07 for commuting (80 mile round trip) and I've just turned 3,000 miles on the original tires. The front is fine and will go an additional 1 to 2 K (although I'll probably change it sooner as I'm thinking of going to a slightly wider tire). The rear is pretty much done (I'd change it now if I was planning a long day's ride in a remote off-highway situation). As a commuter tire, I might squeeze another 500 miles out of it. There's still 5 to 7 mm on the *****, but when the ***** wear down this far the tire is much more likely to flat.
I ride 400 miles pavement a week and then 100 to 200 miles dirt / pavement on weekends. I'm not an aggresive rider in terms of acceleration, I work at not spinning the rear wheel (part of that Tread Lightly baggage I have...). That works for me, but not everyone! Fuel mileage seems to be around 63 - 68 mpg in commuting mode. Most of my route is 50 to 55, a few miles at 60 to 65, no freeway.
I really like the KLX as a commuter / weekend dualsport - but I'm not carrying any gear so the power is adequate.

Hi,
My rear tire showed considerable wear at around 900kms, (pretty much all dirt), the front I would have said I could have got another 1000 but changed both at the time.
Cheers
Chris.

I got about 2300 out of the rear....the front was still good and i saved it in case i ever want to do anything with it....I currently have over 3500 miles on my 607's with no signs of wear on the front and some minor chicken strip on the rear.....they also work ok on dirt roads and gravel...no gripes here. The TM II's only have 700 miles of only off road use and about 100 miles of slab and they still look new.
There are a lot of factors, i think 5000kms is lots on a rear. On my KLR I chewed some knobbies up in a few thousand km on the street and on the flip side had some Continental Conti-Escapes that I rode fully loaded to Cabo San Lucas and back (11,500 km) and still had a few thousand kms left on the rear and 50% left on the front......
damn.... i think i changed my front tire at like 8000 or something and that was a stock front tire! now the back tire is a diffrent story... i think i get around 1200 or so miles out of a rear tire if i'm really riding a lot of pavement and dont care about off road traction... lol i let em get almost bald in the middle then i change em. too expensive, i guess i could go motard and save a few bucks on tires? but not much[8D]
