How long have Kawasaki been making the KLX 250 ?

My son just this morning handed me a copy of Cycle World dated September 1979. In it is a nice article on the KLX250. Sounds like it is either the first of second year for it. Also sounds like they liked it.

BTW, the KLX made the cover of the magazine with a great splashing water picture. I'd scan it but it's probably considered copyrighted material.
