I ripped my smog crap off the first week I had the bike. Wasn't hard. Just follow all the lines and be sure to plug anything you pull a hose off of. Now I have a bag full of the crap that I may just toss... not like it'll ever get used again.

I tried to take my smog stuff off a couple days ago. However, I seemingly didn't have a cap large enough for the airbox. It seems like it's the right size but I can't get it on. Not to mention the tight space makes it even more difficult. Is there a trick to this or will I be able to find a bigger cap. I have a variety kit from AutoZone and the black ones are the largest but too small for the airbox. Will they stretch without breaking? I can try using needle nose pliers to stretch it on.

Must have the wrong assortment there... I got the assorted pack, and was able to use the caps in the kit. Be sure to look in the ends of the caps... some of them are VERY thick-walled! So, while they *appear* to be the same size on the outside, they're different inside. Maybe that's your problem.

I deviated a little from the instructions by first filling the holes with clear silicone sealer before sliding the caps on. I figured that if the caps ever fail, the silicone will maintain a good seal. One side effect of using the silicone sealer is that it helps the caps slide on easier.

Either way, good job.

I don't remember having much trouble with the airbox. If it's close, try WD40 or Vaseline, and that failing, heat the cap slightly with a lighter. Then once in place, secure it with a really tight ziptie.

According to the CA DMV...

Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles manufactured prior to 1998 or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older.

It had been proposed, but was dropped.

I've figured out my problem. I have to plug two openings on the airbox, one 1/2" and the other 3/8". Well my largest vinyl cap is a 3/8". No wonder I couldn't get it on. I'm going to have to look for one before I can do this. What a PITA!

Keep in mind, you guys , that the rubber type vacuum caps dry rot and crack. First hand experience here . The best caps are the vinyl ones.
