Default How to install GPS navigation to start with ignition

Hi guys,

I bought myself a GPS navigation which is basicaly intended for using on motorcycle. It has water coverage IPx7 and it is vibration proof.

Navigation comes with charging cable for mounting on bike electricity.
But only thing that manual saying is "wire it to the bike". It is no more specific.

I could wire it directly to the battery, but if i do it by this way it should drain my battery if I let the navigation on the bike, which is unacceptable.

Therefore I am trying to find the wire, which has 12V on itself when the ignition comes on. I want to connect the navigation positive cable on this cable and the negative on the battery negative lead.

Do anyone of you know how to do this job correctly?

I don't want to improvise when it comes to bike electricity and I want to do this job correctly, I've see a lot of videos when someone placing the positive cable under the contacts of fuse. I think that this is not the correct way to solve this problem.

Thank you for your answers

Wire it to the headlight.
You probably will not like it, if you dirt ride, everytime you hit the starter you will need to restart your nav unit.
Just wire it to the battery and turn it off when you get off the bike.

A 12v relay and a switched circuit such as the taillight would work. There should be enough room under the seat for a relay. A google search for "relay wiring" will show how to do it, if you are not sure.

That is a great idea, I found this relay, which is waterproof

2 Sets Waterproof Integrated 12V 40A 4pin Auto Relay and Relay Holder | eBay

I think that is really great way to solve this problem.
Only thing that I am wondering about is how to connect this relay to the light wire,
I don't want to connect it by using unprofessional method like fitting the cable under the fuse, or wiring it by not-waterproof connector, but I don't know any more suitable method?

Don't you?

Use a splice wire connector, look in the automotive wiring section.
If your worried about waterproofing, wrap it with 3 layers of elec tape. But if it is under the seat, why?
