HEY, this thread discriminates against D-trackers....but, since Maverick has the motard wheels on his, I feel OK about posting.

I commute daily 16 miles to work unless it's pooring down rain. My pleasure riding is mostly in the nearby mountain twisties. I have all the rest stops and eats places scoped out well now. I love the way you can toss this bike around and not have to sweat bumps with throttle-on. I also have toured in the central part of Japan using seat and saddle bags. The entire trip was about 600 miles and the bike handle the expressway and added weight with no issues (a small windshield would have been nice though). I plan on touring again next summer.

With the D-tracker, I don't go much beyond the gravel and hard pack dirt that runs from the front gate to office buildings at my workplace. I do, however plan to add a set of 250s rims, tires, sprocket and larger chain to my accessories for those times I feel like getting muddy. Even so, I think I'll stay with an enduro tire like the Sahara. I just don't envision heavy dirt use with the fun I'm having in this motard set-up.


To date, I have logged 5500 miles and am loving every minute of it.

I use mine for commuting, back road exploring and trail riding. I have completed two enduros this summer and plan to keep this bike for years.
I am entirely satisfied with it.

 

I fall in the "Dual-Sport" category, with a bias towards the off-road end of the spectrum.

I'm primarily interested in trail riding and looking for some of the gnarly stuff (hill climbs, jumps, technical sections, etc.), although dirt roads are fun, too. I mostly ride on the street just to get to the dirt, but sometimes do the occassional commute, just to get my "fix". The biggest thing for me is when you're off-road, you can do what you want, when you want, where you want. When you're on the street, you have to play by the "rules of the road" ... or else!!! [:@]

I used to hate water crossings and mud, because even though I like dirt, I don't like getting dirty (Must be a little bit of "Deej" in me coming out.) What I found was by trying to passively go around the dirty parts, I would often slip into what I was trying to avoid, and ended up getting dirtier/wetter than if I just attacked it straight on. Now when I see water/mud, I use the throttle instead of the brake!

There's some nice country around where I live, but it takes at least 20-30 minutes to get to any decent off-road trails, so I do a bit of exploring to find new routes. I used to ride with people that know where the trails are, but recently got a GPS so that I'm now much more self-sufficient in finding new territory. (Thanks to people like bmwhd and NoBrakes for the RAM Mount ideas ... that really makes the whole GPS thing come together!!! [sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif][sm=smiley20.gif]).

80 % dirt 20% buzzin round the hood. Takes whatever Punishment I give it... and most of the times I beat it up bad!!

The only road riding I do on mine is on the way to the dirt.

I bought mine to go trail bike riding.
I got a road registered trail bike, you guys call them dual sports, means you can ride just about anywhere.
Here in Aus if your bikes not street legal you are seriously restricted as to where you can ride.
Special areas and private property only.

Of course I have a road bike as I like doing that too.

If I didn't I would do what MaverickAus has done and get a set of wheels and use it as a Super Motard.
(I still might do that one day as that looks like fun)

It will get beat up the way I use it in the dirt.
I took it out today and it's looking decidedly second hand now.
(took a spill)
But heh! That's why I bought it.

i use mine for everything, id say 40% dirt 70% road.... everything from just small run around stuff, to just playin in the mud,to just out riding around having fun on the bike, this is my first bike, so i just enjoy riding on the street, but the fun really starts when you hit the mud! This past weekend i was out riding dirt and asphalt, and i saw 4 or 5 dirtbikes pushing them along the road as to not get in trouble, and i went blasting by and waved, sayin HAHA to my self... i love it.. i could just imagine if i had just a dirt bike and was pushing it on the side of the road and someone went by on a bike like the klx i would be pissed... lol... i love this bike, and it takes everything i throw at it and doesnt complain... ill have this bike a while...

anyone catch the 110% usage? lol.....

 

I bought mine mostly for going to get the mail, running to the store and picking up the kid from school. I live in a small town and the streets are terrible, the drive to go get the mail has 5 speed bumps (the ditch across the road kind) that just kill my car. Now I have no problems. I love this bike. Once I started the mods I started exploring more of the farm roads and gravel roads. Now I'm riding the forest roads and atv trails. Next year I will practice some more single track and hill climbes. This bike is able to do it all. 3,600 miles in four months, about 60% gravel/dirt and 40% crappy streets.

 

I assumed that 10% of your riding was on dirt roads. So did I make a mistake in my assumption, or did you in your math?!??
