How do you have your suspension set? (and other stuff)
If your to lift the suspension clear up when its on a work stand and then sit on it and measure the difference, how much does it go down? What is the stock setting? I ask this becuase I got mine with 670 miles on it and the guy lowered it. I want to put it back to stock or possibly raise it.
Sprockets.
I have the 14, 13, and 12 tooth front sprockets. I tried them all and in full stock form the 14 is where its at. If you want the 13 or the 12 then you need to do mods to make the bike more off-roadish to give it that quickness and low end snap to take advantage of it. Otherwise its like your handicapping the bike, you get all the disadvantages and none of the advantages. It seems EVERYONE is running a 13, do all of you have some mods to go along with that, even the free ones to help it breathe better? Or are there some of you that are in bone stone stock form running a 13 or 12 tooth?
Rear Rack:
From what I can tell pre 06-08 model generations didn't have it and now the '09 doesn't. Only that one did. So I guess they realised it was dumb and looks gawd awful and ditched it. I was thinking of taking it off and cutting off the handles that stick out and the rack bars all on the rear and just leaving the U shapped thingy-ma-bob that connects it to the rear fender support and holds the turn signals on. Know what I mean? Has anyone else done this? I was also thinking of ditching it entirely and just mounting the signals on the rear fender. It would bring them in closer and tighter to the bike and lower them so your foot doesn't smack them from time to time getting on and off the bike. I'm 6 ft and I still have to make an effort to lift my leg high enough to clear all that stuff.
Bars
Anyone else think they are a half inch - inch too wide?

My "Jimmy Button" Renthal's are wider/higher than stock. They're perfect IMHO.
Set the sag to YOUR weight. (Google it.. Setting SAG.)
Running the 13/14 tooth in stock form is all good. The 6th gear is way tall, and if you bike is completely stock, the 13 tooth will give the stock motor that little bit of help it needs to pull the top gear, assuming you still have the stock 42 tooth rear sprocket.
I like the rack. It's useful.

I know about the whole 10cm thing for MX bikes...didn't know if it was the same for these machines. I was just curious of the stock settings.
Personally, I think the bike runs better with the 14 tooth. Like I said, with the 13 the machine felt handicapped. Like it was being restricted. I'm all about the 14.
I disagree with the rack brother. That beast has got to go. Thats what my new bookbag is for that I just bought lol
How about mirrors? I hate the stockers. They seem tall and they are round. They need to be wide so you can see. Or if they are going to be round at least be small and foldable. MSR seems to have some good, short, foldable ones. Either that or theres some guys from Taiwan and Thailand selling some nice mirros on Ebay.

That would be like putting a 12t front sprocket on it and keeping the stock back one on it. It's not "horrible", but after sampling what the 14 is like...no way I'm going back. lol

Yeah I do ride on the road more. It was funny, I got the bike thinking I was going to do more dirt but it turned out to be the other way around. I actually still find myself reaching for another gear sometimes. Today was one of those times.
Like I said though, if my riding style changed and I started doing more offroad and I had to put the 13 or 12 back on....I would have to do some of the mods to give the bike more of an off road snap to utalize the extra bottom end because the way the power delivery is in stock running form is almost like a handicap on the bike in my opinion.

I'm not putting my 13 on until I get the Muzzy and Carb issues taken care of. (Just ordered today).
Everyone is different when it comes to the rear rack...I like mine, but it will come off with simple wrenching. so.....make the bike what you want and most importantly....ENJOY IT!
Don't forget about your front fork settings.
LOL

Jason,
Here's a link to a video on setting up your suspension.
I found it helpful in getting close to my bike close to correct.
Then play with it 'till you're happy which will depend on road vs. dirt use.
All dual sports are a compromise anyway.
Luckily the KLX20 is very good at both (esp. with some mods - so I read).
