Default HID Head Light Kit

Has anyone put a HID head light kit on their bike and what is your experience? Thanks

yes im curious too
at least on my 250s the low beam makes a nice rectangle beam and I would like to keep that

but im wondering if HID would make a more wild pattern
I used HID on 2 scooters and it projects the beam all over the place around the edges
worked fine in the center but those were round headlights not square

Because I love how much more light you get from HID, but not sure on the pattern

also will a high low fit inside? I know those are little longer then just a low beam

HID bulbs are illegal in non-HID housings and will project light in other drivers eyes. My biggest issue with it on a bike though is if the bulb goes out, you don't have a high or low beam to switch to.

I would be more inclined to try a silverstar bulb, or wire the headlight socket to a couple of relays and use a higher wattage H4 bulb. Stock is a 60/55w H4 - HB2 - 9003 bulbs

I like the fact it gets in drivers eyes
im mostly 90% day driving so that extra brightness helps me be seen further away

and at night on my other bikes I have it aimed pretty low
why I like the high low HID I run high beam during the day

I looked at some incandescent bulbs but at $60 for a set of 2 from auto stores im not sure what they will look like
where I know what HID's look like for the same cost at least brightness wise

But then I dont know what pattern HID's put out on the klx

If you just want to be noticed better, a headlight modulator is a better way to do it without blinding everyone. www.headlightmodulator.com

I'd suggest not installing HIDs in a standard shell. The risk it poses to other motorists by blinding them outweighs any visibility benefit that may be gained by the motorcyclist. *
I agree with 795, get some silverstar bulbs if its a whiter look you are after...

Silverstar bulbs are pointless. I tried them in my Z1000. There is almost no discernable difference.

I put an HID in my DR650, mainly for reducing power usage from the stock 55W to 35W. I have a kit ready to put in my KLX, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I don't care about the high-beam on either bike; I have LED driving lights on both, which I run day or night. And btw, I RARELY get flashed by oncoming cars for any of my lights.

What they DO do is motivate cars ahead of you to get out of your way. I tend to ride near the center line, whichever lane I'm in, so I'm beaming into the car's side mirror. It doesn't take long for them to move over and let me by.

BTW, the HID light won't change the light pattern. It'll be exactly what it is now, only whiter and brighter. BTW don't go over 5000k temp, otherwise it's too "blue" colored and is actually worse. The human eye sees blue colors the worst of all, so keeping it at or under 5000k is best. Frankly, 4500k is probably better because it's closer to the standard headlight color, but a bit whiter.

Thanks for the info
I also like 5000k nothing higher, I like the white look
and also going to 35 watt will save up some power if I ever choose to do any mods like 12v plug or something

still havent done anything yet on my car I found a set of bulbs with blue glass that shined white that looked really nice
maybe I will see if I can find that in H4 on ebay
hopefully only get 1 bulb

1pc H4 60 55 Watt Xenon Halogen White Headlight Bulb Motorcycle | eBay

H4 Halogen Light Bulbs 60 55 Watt Blue New | eBay

Halogen Headlight 9003 HB2 H4 5000K x 1 Bulb High Low Replace 60 55Watt Fit | eBay

went ahead and ordered these http://www.ebay.com/itm/2x-H4-60-55-...df3a11&vxp=mtr

In state seller and 2 for a cheap price
I will try to do a before and after pic once installed
If I get 5000K or close to that color light I will be happy for the price
I was expecting to pay $30 for one bulb but $7 shipped for 2 why not try it

Geometry dictates that by placing an HID bulb in a halogen reflector housing, you'll be casting a wider light pattern with hotspots & glare. *The result may indeed be advantageous to the biker but impair the vision of other motorists & pedestrians. *At the very least, it'll be distracting to others.

Add the fact that an HID bulb is brighter, the headlamp height of a motorcycle is higher than a typical car, & that a motorcycle pitches upward under acceleration, and the problem of HIDs on a motorcycle for others on the road is compounded. That's why headlight design is regulated and why HID conversion kits are illegal.

Its probably less of a problem during the day as Rob & Mike suggest, but if you are having trouble seeing the road ahead at night with halogen headlamps, perhaps it's time for eye glasses(?).
