Default Help ! klx250 is surging, I think?

In any gear when riding without too much throttle where bike is kind of coasting easily in gear I am getting this sensation like the wind is blowing me causing the bike to feel like it is surging. I'm pretty sure I am not running lean as I get this same sensation with the air screw around 1 turn and over 3 turns out it is still there....very wierd sensation.

When you get on the bike you don't feel this sensation.

My gut is telling me something is not right with the throttle diaphram. I did drill out the slide to 7/64 as one of the attempts during my rejet process recently, which I put everything back to stock except for the drilled out slide..

Did i install the slide incorrectly? Am I supposed to have the slide bubble up before closing the cap? Everytime I put the slide back in the bubble is down towards the carb? Could this bigger slide hole be fluctuating causing the sensation I'm feeling.

You don't really hear anything happening in the engine or the tach doesn't seem to move.....weird. Help?

my bike did the same thing. Found burnt and occluded carb vent lines. Fixed those and it still did it. Ended up moving the tank vents. Thats what fixed mine. The tank vents looked good, but i looseded up the curves.

Did you replace your needle & if so what groove is the clip on? When I installed my N1TC needle, I started with #3 groove & found it was surging when cruising and noticed my tail pipe & spark plug were very sooty. So I repositioned the clip to #1 groove to lean off & the surging went away. I did not drill out the slide.

I have since removed the N1TC to improve fuel economy.

saga continues....everything is back to factory settings except the drilled out slide. I was able to close up the drilled out slide opening a little more but now the bike will not even get above 2500-3000 rpms with out dyeing... I found a small filter crushed inside the fuel line just before the carb, took it out.

Checked all the hoses, made sure the reserve and regulard hoses in the tank had their filters on them, they did, checked petcock, blew through hoses, everything seems okay.

Took the carb off (again), getting good at this, cleaned up everything, and still wont go over 3000 rpms. Will start and idle okay.

I may just buy a new slide and spring?

Sounds like maybe the carb diaphram got pinched on assembly? If the diaphram has a hole in it the bike won't rev very high.

close Mel Brooks.....I took out the contraption i used to close up the diameter that I had drilled out at 7/64's..to be more like stock diameter which I don't know what it is.....put everything back together and now the bike idles and goes over 3000 rpms nicely.

I still have this slight surge feeling at cruising speeds.....what is this? I disconnected the kick stand circuit to try and rule that out. I really think something is not right with my slide now that it was drilled out to 7/64's........could the carb not be maintaining a good CV because the diaphram is letting out the pressure easier now that the slide hole is bigger? When you get on the bike and twist that throttle it will go quite well, but you get that hesitation sensation when you let off throttle and bike starts to cruise....

Did the rectifier mod and grounded out the black/yellow wire....no difference.

I did shorten the carb slide spring and it was a little better, but surging still there at cruise.......just ordered OEM spring and slide and will be done with the bike. Bike is going to be for sale now....going back to pumper carbs and 2 strokers....
