Finally got a chance to take the KLX out and see what MPG I am getting after rejetting. I went 52 miles and put in 1 gallon. So know to bad, it does seem like I have a flat spot around 6-7 rpm and the bike does not want to gain speed in that range. Once I hit 7 RPM it takes off really well. Low RPM seems like plenty of power also.

Yes, with a #4 washer under it. Contemplating going back to the N1TC with clip in top position and see if that corrects the flat spot. I don't know if flat spot is the correct term. If I shift and end up in the 6-7k range I only had power to maintain the speed I was going or very gradually increase speed, once I got up to 7k the bike took off agian.

Landon, I still think the DJ needle for the 300 model is probably the best option out there. I'm still not sure if the DJ needle in the '09 and later kit is the same. It may be. Even in terrain full of deep, sandy river beds where you have to constantly flog the bike to keep moving, I can't hardly get my KLX fall off of 50 mpg. Now I admit this surprises me a bit, but it's the absolute truth. The worst I've recorded is about 45 mpg. Mine just has a 300 cylinder with 11:1 compression, a full Muzzy exhaust, and an opened up airbox. I've seen nearly 70 mpg during periods of easy pavement cruising. When you get the jetting on the DJ kit matched with other minimal but effective mods, the power delivery is smooth and crisp, and the fuel mileage can be very good.

So I got back in the bike to rejet for Colorado and figured I should pull the plug and check it out after rejetting this spring to see how much soot is on it. Here is what it looked like...

I think I am pretty close on the jetting.

That looks pretty good to me. How is the current mileage?

I get 50 plus on gravel/pavement. I still think I am in the low 30's on the trails, I think thats just the nature of the beast though.

your insulator looks nice and tan...rich, it would be dark/black...plug looks pretty good...i wouldn't keep taking it out to take a look...broke one of my plug doing that...since we are in a gas mileage page...fat tires kill gas mileage...i regret getting these fat frankenstein tires...went from getting 65 mpg (110/70-17 & 130/70-17) to getting about 55 mpg (120/70-17 & 150/70-17)...highway and street riding on a sf

I also get 60 mpg gallon based on my mods. It doesn't very much if it's all highway or in town riding.

I guess I can see lots of throttle and dirt riding would kill MPG. I have not measured that. When you get 50+ on the gravel/pavment is that a lot of WOT also?

Normally I would say 50 or so is low for these bikes and 60 was a bit closer to the mark.

MPG is so much driving style however it is hard to compare. If you are doing 75 MPH on this bike taking so much wind it will not be great. Now 35-60 MPH commuting and I am for sure in the 60's and 70 if I am just easy on it.
