Default Helmet for Christmas - Arai XD?

Wifey says I can have a helmet for xmas! [sm=icon_cheers.gif][sm=groupwave.gif]
I've seen a few of those off-road helmets with the street style face shield (Arai XD for example).
Anyone got an XD or something similar? Any opinions?

I know, they're expensive, and gonna be noisier than a typical full-face street helmet. But dang it, they look cool and the sun-visor is a big bonus.
So I guess you can wear goggles with the face-shield up, but then you have to stop and remove your goggles to lower the face shield - is that right?

I've heard they fit small too... http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134203
Definitely gonna try it on before buying. I'm making a trip down to San Diego before xmas and want to bring some goodies back.

Today, I mostly wear a large HJC street helmet, and sometimes a large HJC dirt helmet (yeah I've always been a cheapie with helmets).

I have one, I love it.

Goggles work fine with it, and you can close the shield with goggles on if you want, they don't interfere with the face shield.

As far as fitment, I found somewhere on-line that had a fitment chart, measured my head, and bought the one they indicated and it fits very well.

There is some wind noise at speed, but it is a happy medium between a fully street helmet and a motocross helmet. I had a Shoei Z-Two before the XD and the Shoei was quieter at speed, but does not ventilate nearly as well. I also have a regular MX helmet and it is way loud by comparison to the XD.

I splurged and bought mine as a birthday present to myself.

If you get one, PM Suprakawigirl on this site and she may give you a KF discount. I got mine from her and her price was better than any on-line price I could find, and included free 2nd day FedEx shipping.

+1 on kawigirl -- that's where I got my XD - best price out there.

I purchased a similar super-motto style helmet which cost a lot less than then Arai.

Here's my post about it with a pic.

Also, I find mine lighter and more comfortable for my head than the Arai.

Might be worth checking out.
