Default Helmet Cam - Last Weekend

Here's some helmet cam from this past Sunday at our local spot which is an hour or two south of me. I can always find the "usual suspects" there on any given weekend and always makes for a good time on the trails. The trails are mostly flat and twisty with some open connectors. I took the 200 XC-W this time, the first hare scramble of the season is coming up in a few weeks and I'm considering riding it instead of the 450, but haven't quite decided yet. I think I might have made a mistake in the 200 setup, it seemed to have too short gearing on the final drive so I went 5 teeth smaller on the rear, but I think that was too far, probably need to go back 2 or 3 teeth. This affected it mostly in the tighter areas, I think I'll fix that before the next time out.

One thing that is really great about the little 200 is that it makes it so much easier to weave in between the trees in the tighter sections. With the 450 you really struggle to get it to change direction. The 200 is just a little flick and it does what you want.

Haha, some of my riding buddies are ribbing me about that. It's most definitely for my son. When we ride together, it's his. But if he's not riding, then I have the option of riding either one. That's just the way it is.

I did buy a spring for it for my weight, but I have not put it on yet. I've determined that in 15 minutes I can put my spring on with proper sag. And in another 15 minutes, convert it back to the softer spring for him and back to his sag settings. So we can switch the set-up back and forth pretty quickly, but it mostly stays set up for him.

The reason he wasn't riding this past weekend was because he hurt his wrist riding BMX. It was in a splint, possibly broken, but x-rays this week tend to rule that out, but he may be having an MRI next to determine if there was any tendon or ligament damage. So he's out for a little bit.

Meanwhile, it would be a shame to let such a nice bike sit without getting out to play.
