Default Hello guys...JUST got KLX today..

Hello all, I just got my 2006 KLX250S today that has 85 miles on it. And I love it already. I'm taking it to Mena, Arkanasas tomorrow to do some ridin. I've read a lot about "breakin in" the bike. I really have no idea what thats about. Is there anything in particular I should do? Obviously it hasn't been broke in yet with 85 miles on it. The bike rides well so far. The only thing I noticed is that in 2nd gear when I let off the clutch and give it the gas a little bit, it goes (put..put..put...put) almost like its going to die. There is not much power or something for some reason. I don't know if i'm explaining that very well but it seems like in 2nd gear it would be getting up and going a little better...ANY advice would be very helpful...Also I will be using the "seach" to find other related posts about breaking the bike in.

Welcome to the club of the KLX's.

85miles on a 2006. That is really something. I got mine when it had 1,800 miles on it from 2 owners. 5,300 miles today, it still runs good. With only 85 miles on yours, it is still in the break-in stage. Give it some time, it will start to free up and become more easy reving as it breaks-in and parts loosen in.

Fit some Barkbusters today or you'll be buying some new levers on Monday.

I would just ride it like it's stolen, and break it in the right way, not the way the manual says.

the most important part of a break-in is not staying at a constant rpm for very long. get the bike up to speed and then close the throttle. don't use the brakes. let the motor slow the bike down. make sure the motor is warm before you start. excelerate hard thru the gears to 4th or 5th. cruise there for a bit then chop the throttle. don't use the brakes. let the motor slow the bike down. go about a 100 or so then go change your oil and filter. i got my bike with 76 miles and this is what i did. i have 3500 miles now and the bike is fine. your motor won't be completely broken in for another 500-600 miles but this will get your rings seated right.

Congrats on the bike! I got my 2006 in April this year with 420 miles on the clock (paid $2500, btw). I've put 1100+ on it and I'm on my second rear tire.

Have fun riding around Mena. It's a great area for dual sport riding! Here's a ride report from our trip there.

BTW, I've got our GPS tracks for that area if you're interested. Let me know.
