Default Heat shield for soft saddlebags?

Any suggestions on what to use to make a heat shield on the exhaust side of my PMR side racks? I recently added some soft bags that I have, but there is about a six inch square area (framed by the tubing) that the inside rear of the bag is open to the exhaust can. My FMF gets pretty warm in the woods and I'd like to not burn the inside of the saddlebag. The saddlebag has the soft protective padding between it and the rack, but I don't know how much good it would be for heat protection.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts/suggestions.

When you find a good way to get burnt plastic off the muffler, let me know!

Anybody in your area who installs wood stoves? They'd probably have something to use as a heat shield.

Tillman 550 Back Hand Protector Leather | eBay

Stick it on with this:

Gorilla Glue 2 oz. 50002 - Filmtools

Should be able to locate a similar welding glove Back Hand Protector at a local welding supply, then you can touch it, smell it, lick it....whatever the ever discriminate KLX rider does to proof and test their potential purchases. They can be cut, shaped, overlapped and the Gorilla Glue is heat resistant.

Easy-Off Oven Cleaner. Put it on a hot muffler. What that stuff doesn't remove, you can get off with the edge of a regular ol' Nickle...you know, that round thing in your pocket with a Buffalo on it that won't buy you anything by itself...you'll have to rub a bit, but it'll get it without butchering the finish. The smarter kids only have to do this once, as there seems to be a lesson in this too. In a pinch, you can bend up a car license plate and use safety wire to afix your custom heat shield around the muffler. Anyone that's ever scraped melted stuck on poo off a muffler will never ask what it's for.

This sounds like an idea that would work. I just hung a hard piece of plastic in it this morning and I believe this protector would work as a repellent of heat.

Thanks!

Default Bag Protector

I had the same problem. I found a piece of bendable thin metal and cut it to the size of the muffler. Drilled two holes in the plastic and metal and extended it with bolts drilled through the metal and plastic to extend it out over the muffler area. Works great and very light.
