headlight/taillight killswitch
#2
I just used an old school automotive headlight style switch to insure that I didn't run into any overload issues. I'm no electrical engineer, but I just wanted insurance that the load would not challenge the switch. I mounted it behind the number plate on my '06 and carefully waterproofed it. I've run this setup for decades on both KLR650's I've owned and this KLX. I don't bother with the taillight. I don't know how much this does in the real world of battery/charging conservation, but when I'm in the boonies riding alone and doing lots of scenery stops, I feel a bit better with the headlight off on a bike that has no kickstarter. And what do you know...I've never gotten back on the back and been faced with a battery too low to e-start the bike. Pants and suspenders for me in this category.
