Default The Quad goes over the Hill

On Day 1, HardTaco and I were taking a break up on top of one of the trails when we thought we heard someone yell and then a crash. It was a good ways off, and we weren't quite sure we even heard it, so we didn't think too much about it. Break time over, we were hauling down this trail and came around this turn to find the display below laid out before us:

What's going on fellas? Oh. Anyone hurt? No ... that's good.

The Rancher's winch saved the day and after everyone pitched in, we were able to haul the big Rincon back up onto the trail.

The Rincon was drivable, not horrible shape, I don't know quads so I have no idea how much something like that would be to fix. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It appeared to have flattened a 6 inch tree on the way down the hill, 6 inch trees don't surrender too easily, so I was thinking the damage would be worse.

Anyway, we stopped to lend a hand. You never know when you'll need someone else's help, best to pay it forward.

Quads are just like any other toy. Usually big $$ to fix stuff.
Thats a big heavy quad there. How did someone loose it there? Sheesh, what a way to ruin the day, huh?

Luckily he bailed off before it went over, he would have been hurtin' for sure otherwise. I guess he just had a lapse in concentration. Some of those sharp turns sneak up on you. Plate on the quad said it was from Arizona. Most of the people there were from another group, stopping to help out. I don't think the guy whose quad it was even helped get it back up, he was on the cell phone the whole time, probably calling his wife to make sure his insurance policy was paid up and asking her to send a new pair of shorts.

"asking her to send a new pair of shorts."
LOL
Looking at the quad overboard pics all I kept thinking was who ever rode that over the edge probably needed a fresh pair of underwear.

The place where we stayed, The Fox ATV Lodge in Gilbert, WV:

Has a river out back of the place:

Not only is it a good place to kick back and relax in the evening by the bonfire after a hard day of riding (20s exposure, f3.8, ISO200):

But it's fun to play around in on the bikes as well. I crossed a little channel earlier in the day that was way deeper than I thought it would be because last year it was only about 1/2 a wheel, but this year it went all the way up to my seat. Once I realized it was so deep, it was too late and I goosed it and the rooster tail was spectacular and covered my back, I was soaked. No pictures of that, sorry. But the guys staying in the other unit got their quads out in it and had some fun on evening:

This is the "deeper than it looks" channel that came up to my seat. I crossed about where he is pointing. He's saying, "that's deep right there". They're trying to figure out a way across without drowning their quads.

They end up clearing some brush off the hill so they could go high and jump the deepest portion, landing on the silt-bar.

I'd say they had some fun playing in the water. Its unusual to see guys out there on Sportbikes, I usually see them on big heavy azz 4x4's. The sport bikes are a frickin blast to play on.
