Default Group '09 IMS gas tank purchase ( or least try)

so last night a shoot an email to acerbis and ims, just bugging them about if they are going to make tanks specific to our bikes (09 in my case). so far this is what i have got.

Our KLX300 tank fits, but your choke **** hits the fuel valve. So if you are willing to shorten the choke **** you can make it work. Here is a link with photos someone sent me: http://gsnorcal.smugmug.com/gallery/...25389480_MEAFG

We are not looking into make a specific tank for the KLX250s.

Thanks,

Brian

Subject: 09 klx250s gas tank?

i am the proud owner of a 09 klx250s, one problem the bike has though is a small (1.9 gallons with reserve) small gas tank. i love riding deep into riding areas to find stuff most people dont even know is there, but the tank is holding back a lot. all and all, my questions is is your company looking into making a larger tank for the bike, and if so, when do you think this may be avalible.

funny part is all he says is needed is the choke, when looking threw the pictures again, its that, the seat doesnt fit the tank right, and same with the side panels. i havent got an email from ims yet, but i think we all need to send emails, show how much of a market there is, and why they need to make one. ims is in riverside from what ive seen, and im willing to drop the bike off if thats what is needed, even though this is my sole sorce of transport right now. i just think its funny that 90% of dual sporters buy bigger tanks for a wide range of reasons and no one wants to make one that fits right.

That's BS to modify the choke to make a tank fir that was desinged for a different model bike. Yes the KLX300 is close buy not an exact replica. I have the Clarke on my 06 and it mounted up very nicely with no issues.

I know this isn't a fix..but you can always just carry a 1 gallon gas can with you and toss it in your backpack. Or a 2 -3 liter bottle of soda filled with gas.

#1.... The rear rack cant hold alot of weight, i woudlnt trust a gallon of gas on the rack...seen pics of rear subframe broken.

#2.... gasoline dissolves certain plastics.... wouldnt use soda bottles...

Just an FYI

I highly doubt that any of them will make a tank for the 09 any time soon. The 06-07 owners got lucky that Clarke stepped up. It's really not worth it to them to produce a tank for a bike that has such small sales numbers.

im doing a gas can for noob valley rally, but riding by my self and not older men (most the adv forum, not talking **** just truth), i tend to ride ruff trails and at a good pase. not fast but fast enough to make a gallon tank in a back pack or on the rack a problem. i dont trust soda/sports bottles, cus it leaks down your back at all and hits the motor, your done. i want to look into seeing if i design something, if i can find a company to make a limited run of them for a decent price.

Its all about money. IMS made a run of tanks for the fuel injected 08 husqvarnas, so with enough interest they probably would do so for the klx250s. I would buy one for sure as it is a pain to have to get gas so often. I have one for my 07 te450 and it sure helps
