Ground Wire Mod

i know i have seen this some where but i can't find it now

So is this for all KLX250's or is it just for the 2009-2010

was this a recall ??

i have a 2012 and i want to make sure i have no problems in the future sine i mostly ride off-road with the KLX and i wouldn't want to be pushing a bike out of the woods :)

I think it was in this thread. It is 18 pages long so I didnt read it through to find out for sure.

The problem won't stop the bike from running. There just seems to be a lag or a miss around 6K rpm. Sometimes I felt it, sometimes I didn't, for others it was more of a problem. I think my issue was running too lean, as I don't really notice it anymore after messing with the A/F screw.

IS this the mod that everyone is doing

thats the rectifier, the part you are grounding. the budle of wires plugs into that and then you add/replace the ground coming out of the box (the yellow/black wire).

yup, that's what they did to mine at the dealer.......I was getting a flat spot at 6000-6500, it was taken care of under warranty, my bike is a 2012.
apparently there is no recall on this, but my dealer knew of the issue and took care of it.

yes that is the mod. And no there isn't any other benefit other than helping to alleviate the miss at ~6K if your bike has it.

Yes! this must be my issue ive been having an occasional misfire (pretty rare though) around 5-6k rpm and I couldn't figure it out spark plug is new and gapped properly jetting is good its been driving me crazy good thing I came across this thread cant wait to do this mod.

Good info.

One guy did post a few years ago about running a ground wire from the battery to the starter bolt and it helped his weak battery-like starting problems

Well, just got done with the ground wire mod everything went really well I used a wire brush to clean everything around the bolt area and the bolt itself and I even used a gold plated connector for maximum conductivity. There was already a hole in the plastic connector cover to stick a wire through like they already knew it was supposed to be there from the factory for this mod lol. One thing I noticed though is that I already had another ground there for something else and that one wasn't there in the previous pic in this post.

I did this mod a few weeks ago and sadly, I still get the occasional miss between 5 and 6 k. I'm fairly sure I did it correctly. I just tapped into the wire and didn't actually cut the wire to the rectifier.

Just thought I'd share.....
