Hmmm....noone mentioned the Garmin Zumo. Best out there now with left hand controls and fully waterproof like the Garmin Chartplotters on my Boats.

Not my bike, but fellow forum member....I think it looks good. I personally just use a compass and a map...lol.

Great ideas guys. I am looking mounting my Garmin 350 on the bike and am looking for a power source. Is there a spare power outlet on the 09 model, or do I have to run a fused line from the battery?
How much extra power do we have on this stock machine.

You'll have to run a fused outlet, there are write ups on it. There is also one that talks about how much extra power we have. You won't have trouble running a gps, but heated gloves and vest together is another story.

go to REI and ask them to throw their display units in the mud. see which one still works .... or just ask which one is really environment proof.

A bit late but my KLX has a Garmin Zumo 450 mounted on her. I also use Garmin's Oregon 300, Etrex Vista (old one and reliable); 276C and Nuvi 200's. Some of the newer Nuvi are now "waterproof" - really very water resistant which is a good thing. It's not going to matter too much which model or manufacture that you get, It's the features/functions that are important. My preferences are:

#1 - would be tracking/mapping - so you can find your way back or save your tracks to make routes.

#2 - custom mapable - I use my GPS's in 3 different countries and have about 12 different map sets for them - some home made.

#3 - weather tolerant - duh!

#4 - custom waypoints - very handy and lots of them!

#5 - Geocaching friendly - what can I say, I'm addicted.

Only my Oregon 300 does all of those, my 276C, Etrex Vista and Zumo 450 do all but one, my Nuvi's are best for the car which is what it's made for.

I just ordered the Zumo 660, I paid the hight price for it but I couldn't wait. I've also got a magellan sportrak that I can use for the trails.

Heh Finger, thats my original Zumo 550 install.

Its a bit different now with a complete remodeling of the whole dash area.
On or off the road, I'm very happy with it.

No worries. There's plenty of power for a GPS.
