oh,
Mouting is just a u-bolt assembly (two 1/4-20 nuts and it is off) and it will come off the F800GS and into the KLX in a few minutes.

It comes off the bike and into the car in just a few seconds. (it snaps into and out of the Ram Mount). I have a window mount for the Car (it was included in the box for $225).

I have not found a GPS that will function in all three ways like this one for the price.
It is also geocashe friendly - the kids and I have beeen fnding treasure during the summer. (its fun!)

Good luck on your research and with whatever you desiced to buy.

Be careful, I don't think the Nuvi is waterproof.

Says so on that page at least... But i'm kinda doubtful too. I'll have to check some more because so far, it's the one I'd be inclined to buy.

I have had mine in the rain and it is fine.

Dunking it in the water over the side of the kayak would not be advised

I did see a demo of a guy that left it in his fish tank (under ~12" of water)..

You can try it with yours if you feel like it. I'll pass

I'm using my dad's Magellan eXplorist 210. Its hacked and unlocked, of course He bought a cable to hook it up via USB and he "found" some software to take the data from the GPS and upload it into any mapping software / Google Earth

But even if you don't hack it, its a great breadcrumb trail GPS for finding your way back out of wherever, plus it has highways and roads listed on it. Unfortunately you can't input maps to it.

Delorme Earthmate PN-40 w/uber cheap mounting system

I'm smitten with these velcro wrap thingies. Quick removal for when you have to leave the bike, holds as tight and secure as you care to wrap them, convenient for sooo many things.

RAM on the KLR because the bars are further away and allows better position adjustment.

Default Garmin etrex Legend HCX

My Garmin works great. Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-V...9865&sr=1-1has the etrex Legend HCx for $186 w/free shipping. I ordered the RAM mount from GPS City. You'll need a Micro SD memory card to store your maps as there's no internal memory. Less expensive models of the etrex have internal memory. Don't forget to get Mapsource 2008/09 Topo maps. Amazon.com will probably have the best price. The 60 and 76 models are great, but I wanted to stay under $200. for the GPS itself. Whatever brand/model you get, make sure to get some of those clear vinyl sheets, digital camera section of Walmart or Target, to cover the GPS screen. The clear sheets keep your muddy fingers from scratching up the screen.

It should read "IPX7", that's the waterproof standard for electronics.
