What about aftermarket speedo? Are there any accurate replacements?

I'm using a TrailTech Vapor. It works by measuring wheel revolutions with a magnet placed on the wheel and a sensor placed on the brake caliper or fork guard or similar. The operator then inputs a number into the Vapor computer that, if I recall correctly, is the number of mm traveled in one wheel revolution. You can really fine-tune the accuracy, either with GPS or carefully measuring the distance of one or more wheel revolutions.

Why not go to a bicycle shop and get one of their magnetic bicycle speedo? My dad has one on his trek that would work sweet! I might have to go "borrow" it...

There's nothing in the manual about it.

1. Take the instrument cluster out.
2. Remove the screws holding the face plate on.
3. Remove the two screws holding the speedo in the housing. There may be some other small screws that need to come out before the speedo comes out. I don't remember.
4. With the speedo out, hold the cup in the rear to keep the shaft from moving. Rotate the needle on the shaft. It's just a press fit.

Thanks, I'll try it when I get time.

Just got back from my road test today, ( see first post ) and I passed. I almost failed because of the speedo. The instructor who followed behind me kept telling me to speed up. During the test I was not allowed to use my GPS. If you speed it is an automatic failure. So, I though I would go on the safe side and go by the speed. Well, that costed me 7 points and because I was warned 2 times for going slow. One more warning and I would have failed. Now that I have my licence, I'm ready to do a big bore kit!

Congrats on passing the test.

My speed o reads 70 and the GPS reads 65mph, That is 7%. I can deal with that.

I travel at an indicated 62 mph which is 6,000 RPM and about 57 mph. Good enough for me in a 55 mph zone.
Max I have seen out of the speed O is 85 indicated MPH, but I have a windshield and weigh 199.9 lbs. 351 kit only brought it up 2 or 3 mph even with gearing the front UP one tooth.

MOST autos read 1 mph faster than actual according to my snap on scanner.
