If I was more energetic I might have done just the jet kit and test drove, and then add the exhaust and ride again..... But you know how that goes... I did the carb and pipe together.

The bike runs amazingly better. In my opinion, the jet and pipe/muffler did much more than I expected! I was expecting to finish working on it, start and ride it and need to convince myself that I can tell there is a change. This was NOT the case at all! Response to throttle input is instant, the pull from idle to 3/4 throttle is just so much harder and faster it is hard to quantify. I still have a 3/4-full throttle cut out, I suspect I need a bit more fuel on top. Maybe this coming weekend I'll mess with it and see if I can get that smoothed over.

Overall.... I am so damn pleased that I'm about to pull the trigger on a Dynojet kit and FMF header/muffler for the KLR! You will not be upset if you do this, well worth it. Note that the muffler I used.... it is loud. Real loud. If you need to sneak or be stealthy in your riding area, I would in no way tell you to use this model of muffler, FMF has the quiet series that would be better.

Matter of fact, If I had known how loud this really is, I would not have got it, I would have went to the quiet series. The stock system made me think that this engine was really quiet and could not produce much sound...... I bet Harley guys with drag pipes cringe at the sound now as the KLX goes past!

hmm, i have the same set up and to me it doesn't sound overly loud. I do have the air box lid off and removed the smog stuff. Not sure if that plays a role or not.

I removed the snorkle, not the entire lid.

Do you think you could sneak into my property without me knowing it? The stock exhaust was very stealthy and quiet, much quieter than an average lawnmower or lawn tractor. This... is much quieter than the local fair on tractor pull night.
