I agree that the OEM clam is cheap junk, but i do believe the point the poster above you made is pretty valid. They are made with a softer material for a specific reason, which is so that they don't end up slicing a whole through the rubber boot when you go rambo on tightening up that clamp.

One of the airbox to carb clamps broke on mine, and I've been using heavy duty zip ties ever since, never ran into a problem and they are super easy to take on and off.

Hmmm I like the zip tie idea.

I agree with TNC that the clamp on the intake is well made. The clamp on the airbox side has worked well for me with numerous carb removals.

I also agree that you can use a hose clamp , I did that on my old KLR years ago.
