I think you're either confused, or quoted the wrong person. I run Rotella. It's an excellent example of what I was saying, and not a motorcycle specific oil.

It was semantics. I see "motorcycle specific" as an oil with JASO-MA rating, where you meant an oil with "Motorcycle" on the front label as motorcycle specific.

I get what you say and would agree with your comment, Honda GN4 or Valvoline motorcycle oil. The Honda GN4 from Rocky Mountain is around $20/gallon costing significantly more than the Rotella.

I think a lot of auto oil would do fine, but since you never really know if they've altered the additive package or the labeling isn't clear, going with an oil with JASO-MA rating is as close to a guarantee of compatibility as you're going to get.

I use mobil1 0/40 fully synthetic. Its for cars so no jasa rating. Since 8000 km the clutch never slipped. No need to buy jasa oil which often costs a lot more than car oil!

Unless they reformulate the additive package on you and you don't know it. Oils are subject to change. How do you think riders discovered some of the oils with friction modifiers in them didn't work in wet clutch engines?

Again, Shell Rotella Synthetic T6 diesel oil is JASO-MA and less cost than Mobil1. Good chance it might even be available in Thailand if you look. WalMart carries it in the U.S. along with about any other place that sells car/truck oil.

You gotta love oil threads.. I like to notice whose posts on em - including me! I always give in to the urge to post on em, probably because I need therapy..lol

So, once again, I'll add that I'm currently "down" to 9 motorcycles ranging from open class MX/XC racers to a Harley Ultra Classic - I have always run full synthetic, non "EPA Engergy Conserving" oil in em.. You look for synths made for "High Mileage" autos or Diesel or European auto applications - and I try to always use the best "high tech" molecules - like 0w40. 5w40. etc...

Never had any problems with clutches etc..

P.S. if you don't understand "Mulit Viscosity" oils - 0w40 acts/flows like a 0w oil when cold, 40w oil when hot..Best of both worlds for engine longevity..

Been doing an occasional Dos Equis Ambers when eating Mexican, but really liking the apple beers and hard ciders too. Had a good ginger beer too - Crabbie's to be exact.

My local establishment has a couple bourbon barrel aged imperial stouts on tap. Looks like well used 10W-40 and tastes sinfully delicious.

My two sons know how to stay well lubed - I'd loan em out..
