Default Front sprocket will not budge when trying to remove it. Advice?

Finally getting around to replacing the sprockets and chain and the front sprocket will not move at all. I have it completely locked up with a pry bar and the bike in gear and put an impact on it but it will not move. Any advice on how to get this sucker off?

I used my price club/costco floor jack handle as breaker bar on my 1/2" drive ratchet. That c/s nut laughed at the blue point impact I tried.

Warning: don't put the bike in gear when going with an impact on the CS nut. Must be in neutral.

In my case, going with a 3 feet breaker bar and locking the rear sprocket to the swing arm with a steel rod was successful. Hard, but successful.

Can you use an impact when you lock the rear wheel?

A high quality, tight fit, 1/2 inch drive, 6 point socket wrench and a 5 foot breaker bar has yet to thwart me in countersprocket removals.

YMMV, and the forces can be dangerous, so, do so at your own risk.

Thumbs up

if it's just a sprocket bolt...i couldn't do it with the breaker bar...i kicked it down...i stood on it and jumped...nothing!....so...i got the impact wrench gun...and impact wrench socket set....27mm...kind of twist counterclockwise while using the gun..it helped take the bolt off like butter....bike on neutral...didn't need to push the brake or do anything else...

I'll give this a try tomorrow after I heat it up a little bit. What should I be careful of? I plan on locking the rear sprocket up against the swing arm so there is no tension on the transmission. Anything else I should watch out for?
