Front disc on KLX250
Ahhh, I knocked my front disc and now I feel the brake pulse when I apply it. I'm gonna try and straighten it out, but I don't like my chances.
I called up the kawasaki dealer and genuine front disc's are bloody expensive, anyone know of an aftermarket front disc that is cheaper?
Other than that I might head to a bike wreckers, but I'm hesitant about that because it could be a bent disc as well.
Anyway, any advice would be good.

RE: Front disc on KLX250
Ok, so I called the wreckers they said they could get me one no worries off an older bike and would gaurantee it was good. But they want to know if the disc is the same as any of the previous years or if it was different?
I've got a 2007 klx 250, they've got 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 klx 250's......
Anyone know if these are the same?
He said bring it down and they'll check it but it would be good if I knew if they were before I went there...
He also said he'd be able to get me a aftermarket one if the older brakes didn't fit, but said it would probably not be a full floating disc, what ever that means... He said it wasn't a big deal and the non floating disc's are just as good.....
EDIT:
Ok, he called me back and asked if the disc that comes with the bike is a floating disc, said it was preferable that I put a floating disc on it... So anyone know if the 2007 front disc is floating or not?

Think he is reffering to those washer like things that kinda seperate the actual rotor from the hub. Had never seen these before on my older two strokes so I'd put my money on that. Also might be worth shelling out for a real deal fresh one, we are talking about you're brakes. If you do happen to get it fixed pick up a front disk cover, or I think they call them "shark fins", should prevent it next time.

RE: Front disc on KLX250
no, the older KLX250 rotorwill not fit, 99% sure on this. it uses the same rotor as the KLX300, and I know for a fact that it will not fit your KLX250S. I bought a 300 oem rotor off ebay last year cuz I liked how it looked better than the 250's (the current KLX250 like yours) and it will not fit. the mounting bolts are a smaller diameter and thus will not thread into the 250's hub. Now, if you have someone who can machine the 300's mounting holes a little larger, you'd be in business. But, there is a little tapered area that the bolt fits into on the rotor to make it flush on the rotor when it is tightened onto the hub, so it'd have to be exact. the 300 and 250 look alike in a lot of regards, but are more different than alot of people realize.

RE: Front disc on KLX250
I just got back from the wreckers, they didn't end up having one from a KLX but we looked at ones from the KX, and I think I know exactly what you mean Iowaguy. The rotor is EXACTLY the same except for the screw holes, the KLX has much bigger screw holes.
So I think your probably 100% correct about the different sized holes/screws. Looks like I'll have to get an aftermarket rotor or possibly a genuine kawasaki rotor... I'm gonna call around a bit tomorrow and see how I go.

Hello all, I've been a lurker on here for a bit. I dont own a klx but both of my riding buddies do (thats why I lurk on here, oh and because the HOTD...nice!) I have 87 XL250.
Anyways this exact thing happened to my one buddy. A portion of the front disc was bent at 30 degree angle. He checked into getting a new one and they are bloody expensive. So what he did was bring it to a machinist and had machined flat again, they can get it pretty damn close, worked out perfectly. its back on the bike and no problems what so ever. hope this helps.

RE: Front disc on KLX250
here you go, buy this one and make it work. it's dirt cheap and will fit if you have it machined. just take in your old one and they can copy it's holes dimensions and enlarge them to make them fit. this is identical to the one I had to send back. its holes need to be made larger to accept the KLX 250's larger mounting bolts. it can work and at $9.99, it's cheap. hurry though, it ends in a few hours.

You might check with Scott V. He has a cool aftermarket rotor on his KLX. I don't know if he had to alter the claliper mounting or if it bolted right up but it sure looks cool.
