He's actually not that far off. However, on a four stroke motor, dents in the pipe are not fatal. With a two stroke, the expansion chamber is harmonically tuned to create a sonic back pressure wave. Because a 2 stroke lacks valves, the wave keeps the unburned mixture in the cylinder for the compression/ignition stroke. In a four stroke, valves obviate the need for a pressure wave to keep the mixture in the cylinder.

What a dent in a four stroke pipe could do is cause turbulence in the exiting exhaust stream. This turbulence might cause performance issues by slowing the exhaust on the way out. But nothing like a dent in a two cycle pipe would.

A trick to remove dents in the header is to put water in the pipe and put it in the freezer. The expanding water will push the dent out. You have to be careful with this, however, as it can also pop the welds. This is more dangerous with two cycle expansion chambers - but should be pretty safe with a four stroke header.

So I'll take your challenge. And it was on basically my first night of reading the forum trying to catch up on what I need to know about my new bike.

ps. brian, you can't be so naive to the fact that unless those sponsors didn't offer their product for free that the pros would be paying to use them. they put their sticker on their fender and the rider gets free exhausts. you have seen nascar, right? it's not about who has the best exhaust, it's who gives who their exhausts in exchange for a place on their fender. I'm not sure, but I think I remember MC, RC, and Bubba all running Pro-Circuit full systems. betcha didn't snap a shot of any of those bikes did you?

so RC would've run any filter in his perfect season just as long as it was donated to him? that's crap. Air filters being as cheap as they are, his team picked the best one and uesd it. Also, you've never been to an outdoor national have you? "watered down" is incorrect. also, 'closed course circuits?' where do you want them to ride, down the interstate? WTF?

you think racers just use specific brands of gear because they get a check from the manufacturer? so before Nicky Hayden took a crap on himself and got all bigheaded and couldn't ride with the top anymore, you think he would've used Z1R helmets before an Arai if the lids were free of charge?

Do a search and you'll see tons of info about the pipes fitting all years of the KLX250S. The FMF is huge though, sobe warned and looks ridiculous hanging off the back, like a growth if you will coming from behind the sidepanel. Search for pics and you'll see what I'm talking about. It will sustain damage in a crash as it sticks out nearly past the rear fender. flame on!!
And the muzzy is insusceptible to damage in a crash?

I think the muzzy looks stupid. That extend-o spout on the end looks like a 2 year old designed it.

edit: forget it, I thought this was a new thread....I can't even talk the only mods I've done is the seat strap and chain guard!
