Whenever I can, I downshift with the clutch engaged while rolling to a stop.
That is never a problem.
The issue happens when coming to a quick stop while engaging the clutch and then when stopped trying to gear back to N or 1st.
It just wont move out of whatever gear it is in without some fuss.
On occasion wont go out of gear at all and have to start in 3,4,5 or whatever gear it was in.
My symptoms seem a little different than other shift star problems I have read ,but I'll take a look at it.

Slip the clutch a little next time it gets stuck and try shifting again.

I also have problems going to first when completely stopped. I've found that letting the clutch out some and then shifting works. And no, I havent dropped my bike on any side YET.

Thats just a charcteristic of a basic manual transmission. Like they said above you can slip the clutch a little and shift. Or you can rock the bike a little if you have that option.
I had an older truck once that would only go in reverse if you put it in second first. Then it slipped right in.
Cheers Jim

That is what a friend told me as well today. This being my first motorcycle I'm still learning. Rolling it and rocking it does not work sometimes so I'll try slipping the clutch next ride.

Took alot of stuff off today to look at the wiring, to look for the problem with the "shorting". With the ignition on and wiggling wires, I couldn't get the computer to reset. Everything looked OK. Maybe a damaged cell in the battery?

IF you have a volt meter test the battery voltage with the headlight on with the engine off. If it is dipping down past 10 volts or so it is probably hosed
