Default First Dyno Run > Not much for much money 2007 KLX

Hi Guys,

finally made it on the dyno after 6 weeks of dragging it
out, well i was hoping to get a little more out of it but
so far i'm stuck at 21.3 HP.

Mods:

KDX Snorkel
Dynojet, 128main, needle on 3rd clip, both dyno washers installed
Full FMF System
Smog removed
KN Airfilter

Gearing: Stock
Tire: Stock (but almost worn down aka spikey slick)

What do you think? Shouldn't there be more possible
or do i have to change the gearing now to add some
boost?

The bike drives good, much better than stock.

I dont have a scanner so cant post dyno sheet, will try
to scan results at work.

Thinking about buying new chain etc. want to go
to 14/45 with smartchain (are they any good for the $$$, 175 USD)

Oh, before i forgot...FMF pipe slightly louder than stock? I DONT THINK SO

illi

I wouldn't get too hung up on numbers. How does the bike feel?

Did you remove the crankcase breather restriction?
Did it pull more than 9500K in 6th?

Changing your gearing will not improve your dyno run....otherwise everyone would do them in first gear.

Actually 21-22 hp for a jetted and piped klx is about right.....don't worry about the other thread that posted 27 hp with basically the same setup as you.....If you put your bike on that miscalibrated dyno you would also get 27 hp.

If you want the hp .... a 331/340 jug will get you around a real 27-28 hp.

Just sayin.

just because he got a good number, his dyno was miscalibrated? my first thought when I read this post was okay, that's it- he's got an FMF when all along, the Muzzy and BigGun have posted the biggest horsepower gains posted here in the last two years. I also have to look at the '09 and the improvements made; that high dyno number coupled with my own seat of the pants on both the '06 and '09 with virtually identical mods done on both those bikes, that the '09 is a little bit more powerful than the '06/'07. I've said this all along, since I got mine in late March, even in stock trim I could feel a difference in power.

Oh come on Iowa, the motor is the same and you know it.

A little difference is 5% or perhaps 10% which is like 2 hp....not 6 hp thats over 30%. Even the new wr needs a power commander to even look at those numbers, not a tame klx.

just because the motor is the same, doesn't mean jack. an exhaust on the klx either makes or breaks the power output as does the settings in the carb. the '09 has changes in the carb and the tranny. those two things are responsible for putting power to the rear wheel in the most efficient manner as possible. I'm not saying his numbers are on or not, but the fact that nobrakes didn't challenge him says something. same with your buddy dean who also claimes he has nearly 28 rwhp on his 250. but I can tell you like I did before that my '09 clearly felt more powerful in stock trim than the '06 I had did. the tranny too as I've stated many times is much improved. go buy the WR, you've obviously got a boner for it.

Bear in mind that a stock CRF250x or WR250f give about 26 out of the box.

It would take a bit more than jets and pipe to get anything close to these bikes.

I'm with Finger on this one.
21.3 sound reasonable.
27? Nup.

Nah Iowa, I could care less, believe what you will....but if I have a boner for any bike it's one of the new ktm xc-w's not another 250 4-smoke dual sport. But don't you find it a bit ironic that you dismiss the dyno on this thread and cling to the one on the other.

I bet I am in the majority in my opine....27 hp no way.

I'm not saying either one is accurate, but why are you saying his isn't? is it because you've spent so much on your klx and you may have equal or less than 27 horse because of it? No one had ever dyno'd an '09 with an exhaust, so there was no basis to work off of. Believe it or not, but you still haven't ridden a modded '09....I have along with an '06. My words are written contrasing the two many times. Envy isn't good for you my friend.

neilaction- btw, CRF and WR's are making well over 26 rwhp at the rear wheel. they're around 33 stock give or take 1-2 ponies.
