So my son walks into the garage and sees my seat off and my new Twin-Air filter, coated with red oil, sitting on top of the airbox and wants to know when I became a Shriner...j/k, he'd just never seen an m/c a/f.

When I bought the filter and oil I also purchased some light grease that is supposed to be for coating the rubber seal on a filter. After thinking about for a while I came to the conclusion that it doesn't make much sense on a foam filter. I mean, the whole thing is lightly covered in oil, sits in a protective housing and is held firmly in place by the wingnut. Seems to me that adding even a small amount of grease to the edge of the foam would be overkill.

Am I missing something here? What are you guys doing?

 

Ring or grease on the filter seat (the airbox.)

 

It's a bit over the top but old habits die hard.

I put Vaseline on the filter where it seats.

ok-as for purpose of grease heres my thinking: foam being a fairly rough surface contact against smooth air filter creates gaps for dirt to enter. placing grease or vaselineat at this particular spot fills the cavities. therefore better filtration. vaseline filling cavaties! that doesnt sound right
