Default Exploring the bush ...

It's another hot one here in NC. There are a lot of short trail sections here in my area, near Jordan lake. I was over on one section a month or so ago and it had dead ended in the thick bush and brush. I noticed on my mapping GPS that if I kept going about another mile or so into the thick, that it looked like it might meet up with another trail section that is accessible from another direction entirely. So this weekend, I planned to attempt to join the two sections - bush master style.

On my way to the trail head, I saw this engine, pretty cool ...

The trail starts as a quad trail at the end of a dead end road. There's a cable across, but the track goes around. I checked the county GIS deed database and the property is government owned.

Deeper in, there are several sandy creek crossings. Even after all the rain we got over the past several days, this one is still dry.

Deeper into the woods, now, the canopy thickens and darkens the woods - the quad trail continues on.

Here is the end of the trail - the hard part starts now. This is where I'm headed.

Thick brush, and downed trees. A lot of those logs are slick as ice. The Muzzy cracks and voices its pleasure as the K760's dig into the soft pine floor underneath and carry me forward.

Looking back ... rotted logs crumble beneath me.

Darker and thicker ... it is quite challenging to pick your way through, no only worring about what's under you with slick fallen logs and rocks, but also picking a path where the handlebars will fit ...

I wasn't expecting to see this ... I guess he didn't have "AAA" trailside assistance
