Emissions Junk
Ok this is my next mod removing the power robbing emissions related garbage on the bike, I plan on doing it the same time, I put my TM33 on(hopefully it gets here soon). I actually haven't looked at this yet but what do I need to remove or replace. I think there was other posts about this with pics, but I'm too lazy to find them lol.
ok this is something i havent done yet, i dont want to worry about any of those plugs leaking and getting crap where it doesnt belong. Now does this air plumbing really rob some power? i didnt think it did.
as from what ive read it doesnt... its supposed to make the emissions in the pipe hotter to burn any unburned gases.... i think basically removin this stuff makes the pipe not turn blue...

It does not rob power. However, it does add considerable heat to the exhaust header.
Lots of other bike makes benefit from removing the smog stuff because their owners don't like the pipes to blue due to the heat. That's not really an issue on the KLX unless you go with a stainless pipe like the Muzzy or Big Gun. These will "brown" even faster with the smog stuff on the bike.
Capping the vacuum port on the carb will effectively disable the system. However, I recommend removing all three hoses and the vacuum valve to save weight and remove unwanted clutter under the tank. Rubber caps from any auto parts store will work to plug the carb and airbox ports. Plugging the reed valve on the front of the head needs a thicker and larger rubber cap (not vinyl) due to the heat.

On other bikes such as the BMW F650 the smog crap can attribute to the "lean pop" as stated in the FAQ one the F650 forum. I believe it could also do it on our bikes as well. I plan to remove the hoses and make a block off plate for the front of the cylinder head.
