I thought that back in the dark ages of this forum it was the other way round, in that you needed a larger DJ to match a smaller Keihin? I think Deej has some ungodly large DJ I think he has a 140 main with his no airbox lid and Muzzy setup.

That is for Mikuni but it explains why they are listed as differnt sizes. From the chart you can see a 132 DJ is like running a 142.5 K

When you said you checked the plug, did you do a chop? If not, the plug reading will be the last few seconds of whatever the engine was doing when you turned the bike off. If you didn't do a chop, the plug reading is probably just the idle circuit which may indeed be lean, but the rest of the range could be just right.

Also, I'm definitely no expert in plug reading, but I thought I heard somewhere that with unleaded gasoline and all the additives these days, it's a lot harder to do and get a consistent reading. I'd personally rely more on what how the engine is responding than reading the plug, unless you really know how, and cut the engine at the desired throttle setting, and immediately pull the plug and read it - which would usually be along the side of the road or trail.

Yes, did the chop. And got basically the same feedback on plug color from the DJ technicians. They suggested I restrict a little flow into the airbox and see what that does. I'll probabaly put the stock snorkle in sometime today and see what happens.

sorry if this seems a little off topic, but how do you properly read a plug..I ran my bike for about a week (200-300km) after rejetting and exhaust work and airbox opened...I then pulled the plug (the bike had been idle for a couple of days) and compared it to the original plug that came out of it..they looked the same to me so i figure I must be running ok..the bike doesn't bog or backfire..is this a safe assumption? The plug appears slightly tanned except for a dark ring on the last couple threads at the bottom of the plug..the stock one looked exactly the same..

I'd start at the DJ 124 & maybe scale back from there even. Lower then needle also.
I started with 128and the bike ran better when I went to 132.

Then, pulled the plug. Pardon my terminology. The middle part (is it ceramic?) that surrounds the tip of my iridium plugwas fairly white from the tip all the way down to the base. I've pulled it after idling and after 1/4 throttle blipping and itlooked about the same.

I was told it should look either light tan or light gray.

That's what I did. Flame away if I got it wrong.

That's probably the best anyone could reasonably do, unless you have a nice, long hill where you can keep it a WOT and let it stabilize. Throttle position is more important than RPM, and the longer you can keep the throttle at any given position (in this case WOT for the main jet reading) the more accurate your reading will be.

thx guys...I think I'll give that a try..it's 61 degrees F here today..was even warmer earlier but I was zzzzzzzzz from backshift..great day to run the bike and read that plug (properly)
