Read the directions several times. Very easy to do. Just don't strip the screws out on the carb.

 

Turn the fuel tap off before disconnecting the fuel line.














But on a serious note, do open the drain screw on the float bowl before pulling the carb...less messy...of course that's after you shut off the fuel tap. Otherwise it's the normal issue of making sure you don't misplace or incorrectly reinstall the needle parts that have to go back in with the new DJ needle. Just make careful note their positions in the carb and put 'em back in the way they came out.

 

For some of us (not all), the rubber diaphragm is tough to get back in, it seems to expand. If that happens, soak it in HOT water (really) for 5 minutes or so, which seems to shrink it slightly and makes it a little stiffer for easier install.

Is your KLX a hard starter? Drill the enrichment jet to 0.018" while in there.

Consider replacing the phillips-head style carb screws with allen head. Four on top, four on bottom, one holding the throttle cable bracket. Be careful - it will be a lot easier to strip threads with allen head screws (see above).

Also consider checking your float height after getting the carb back together but before installing on the bike. TNC's provided excellent description of this process in other threads -- have you seen those?

 

Turn your fuel to off after you get close to home and let the carb run dry before you take evertything apart, less gas

 

Yes, at times i have to pull the choke after ever 4 to 6 hr rest. what do you mean by (Drill the enrichment jet to 0.018)? any picture of it?

 

If it starts easy enough with the choke, its not a hard starter. If you search around here for drilling the enricher, pics should available.
