Dumb question
Most the instructions I read said to loosen the cables (at the carb, I believe), but to be very conscious of the number of turns on the connectors so that they could be put back the same or risk messing up the push/pull adjustment on the throttle.
I just use a needle-nose or forceps to remove the cables from their "socket" then unscrew that phillips head holding on the cable-connector mechanism so that no risk of messing with the push/pull adjustment. It takes a little wiggling, and it helps if the carb can be loosened and twisted a bit to remove the cable-connector mechanism from around the vent tube.
