Default drag race

I rode the KLX to work today. I was sitting at a traffic light with a big *** pickup truck next to me. When the light turned green the trucker dude decided to punch it and cut in front of me because there was someone up ahead in his lane waiting to make a left turn.

My bike is still all stock and not all that fast, but it does like to rev. So the race was on! I'm happy to report my little bike got the job done and trucker boy had to shut it down and get in behind me. Haha!

Score another victory for Team Green!

Yes be carefull. When I'm driveing around in my full size truck I tend not bow out of confrentation with all the little cars around here.(read cars not motercycle) I find myself doing the same on the bike and realize that I am on the loosing side of the rule of tonage. But yes any fool that thinks he can out accelerate a motercycle with a full size truck needs a lesson.

Cheers Jim

+1 One of my biggest-est precautions.

I do split the lane and take the hole shot at the light, but I am watching the cross traffic as much as the light. I also do not allow a side by side race. I wedge in fornt of the first vehicle, and wave a thanks. I repay it but being quick of the light. If the cross traffic looks like they may not stop... That may be frustrating for the car I just wedged in front of... Too bad for them.

But when it is safe, often (but not always), when that green lights up, I am outta there!!!

+1 to Deb's "Go Team Green"

I checked first. Made sure it was clear before rolling. I used to see a lot of red light collisions when I lived in Colorado Springs. That kind of made a believer out of me.

So it was like a "delayed start" drag race.

Don't do it....You'll come a cropper one day.....Or at the very least miss a gear while trying to look good in front of a couple of sweater wearing nubile cheerleaders on their way home, and look a complete dick. The bike is for the dirt....Period.

Not that I have not stupidly broken my own rule on occasion but I'll tell you what I mutter to myself when I do:

On a motorcycle it does not matter if you are right because you will still be just as dead.

It is tempting to have a fast wind-up off the green light, but IMO the most important thing to do when riding is to look at other vehicles around me and think about any stupid thing those drivers might do. Predicting what others might do has saved my bacon more than once.
I like to have fun but am safe at the same time. Ride on!
