hey thanks for the linky, interesting numbers there. I guess I was wrong earlier, it looks like the DRZ makes 22 more horsepower than the KLX, no wonder mine felt likea dang rocket. 38 vs 16 in stock form.so it looks like the DRZ has nearly 1.5 times the horsepower of the KLX. but the new one is so sleek and new looking, I don't think I can resist wits its all new digital dash and tach and updated styling. jury is still out though on the reduced susp. travel. a view in person will be the deciding factor.

Lets see it has 1.6 times the displacement and 1.5 times the power, sounds pretty reasonable to me, why are we argueing about these numbers again? The DRZ is a bigger bike, heavier bike, and hasa bigger motor, is anyone really surprised that it has more power than a KLX 250? Is anyone surprised that it has more power than a KLX 331 or 340? Aside from forced induction there's no replacement for displacement.
Here's another chart just for kicks, as I'm pretty sure the E model which was in the other article has a tad more power than the SM and S.

But even so, the 33 hp shown in that link is still pretty reasonable for a liquid cooled 400. The Honda 650L (air cooled DS, not the 650R) puts down 38 at the wheel in stock trim. But it is taller than the KLX and 50 lbs heavier with both bikes ready to ride.

I think you need glasses, I'm seeing a run with 35 horse, just like I've been quoting. What's your point? The DRZ weighs in exactly the same weight as the KLX. I'm not saying I'm surprised about the DRZ making more power than the KLX, it's just that some of these guys haven't ridden both and don't know how fast the DRZ really is or how torquey it is. I have to defend it daily, it is a very nice bike. The SM is a lot nicer than the S or the E with it's cool components. comparing it to a KLX is a lot like comparing a 4-cylinder Honda to a V8 Corvette.

I'm in no way knocking the DRZ, I know it has more power, more torque, will be faster off the line etc etc etc, different strokes for different folks. Oh, I also hear the S model has a stronger subframe than the KLX, it even has a bigger tank! Just wasn't the bike of choice for me, too tall.
